| This place is massive. I think of McMansions as being less than 10,000 sq ft. |
| lol poor losers here have so much to judge... |
| Whatever you call it, it's a garish and tacky compound. |
| I like it. Why all the hate? |
It’s not personally to my taste, but I can recognize that people have different styles. I think a lot of people may be reacting to the lower quality of craftsmanship than you would expect in a home at this price point. I would expect nicer hardwood floors and for the show kitchen and master closet cabinets to be finished all the way to the ceiling, for example. Just 2 quick examples. There are more. |
Nah. A Mc has to be between 5-8,000 sq.ft imo It may not be my taste but this is a mansion |
We’re snobs. |
| The original owner, or possibly current owner, left their name on the floorplans that are part of the listing. Appears to be a surgeon. |
+2 even though it seems kind of new money tasteless, I think this is a real mansion. |
| 4.5 million for 22k square feet… how is this even a serious question. Assuming the land has value, you’re looking at probably around $150 per square foot of construction. That is bottom of the barrel, Toll Brothers-esque tier. Also, it’s Herndon — enough said. |
I think it's the CEO of SweatWorks. |
| This is obviously a MEGA-McMansion. Possibly a MAGA-McMansion. |
| The “McMansion Hell” blogger/writer has lots of genuinely good articles on how to identify mansion vs McMansion (square footage is irrelevant but there are many distinctions between the two) |
This. McMansions are 10k or just under. 22k is a legit mansion. That home is massive. I'm curious how many families/generations actually live there? Show me other 20k+ homes in the DC metro area (where all 20k+ is in the actual home and not an adjacent guest house). I'll wait. |
Square footage is absolutely relevant. There are different measures of square footage depending on location. Legit mansions in NYC, Charleston, and other brownstone-esque city mansions couldn't possibly have 20k+, so they are evaluated differently. |
