When do report cards come out?

They are in ASPEN right now.

Yes they get report cards. They are given numbers for different subjects showing whether they are below, on, or above grade level. They’re also evaluated on a bunch of behavior stuff with letters (LP = limited prompting, I = independently, etc.). Not particularly helpful, IMO, unless your school hasn’t been communicating issues/concerns with you.

Interesting, good to know! School does seem like a black box this year, don’t know if it’s because of Covid or if it is always like this, but I don’t know what is going on at school besides the minimal info my K-er gives me. Hopefully no news is good news.

Ugh that policy is so frustrating. But that is tangential: grades are due November 15, so expect report cards November 17 or 18?

So are report cards coming out today? Sorry - annoyingly anticipating this since my K was "below grade level" in reading at the parent teacher conference. Want to see if he has improved!

That won't happen in a quarter hon.

Actually it will hon - reading Level C books now. I mean cmon it’s kindergarten. Don’t know why my comment brought out the newbies. I know intellectually I shouldn’t stress, but I do! I guess it’s like how I see all the parents of young babies stressing over little things that I know aren’t a big deal now.

Meanies not newbies!

Are 2s bad or do teachers give 2s at the beginning to show growth on the standard through out the year?
Anonymous
Does anyone know what the letters mean in the K report cards? I couldn't find a legend.

2s are bad. 3s are for growth.

Skills for each class
S = secure
D = developing
B = basic

For the work habits section, it's something like:
I = does independently
S? = some prompting
F = frequent prompting
N? = never does it

NM means they can't give a mark as does 0.0; just means it hasn't been covered yet usually.

Why does my child have 2s then and has a really nice positive comment about being strong in reading and writing and has also gotten 100 on both math tests sent home. Ughhh I hate this!!

PP, I was told that it’s important to show growth over time for each student. So it’s BS really. The teacher said my kids reads two grade levels ahead and will get lower scores for reading now but a high score by end of year. Shows just how useless the report card is in DCPS

I still can't access Aspen! I try to reset my password and I get an error message saying "The login ID you entered is invalid."

I was told exactly this T1 last year to explain my kid's 3s, but I have *never* heard it as a reason to give 2s to a kid that should have 4s or even solid 3s. This year my kid has 4s T1, so apparently this teacher isn't into the fake growth BS.

Did you use your email registered with the school/DCPS? Could there be another one? Maybe spouse could try.
