NJ Senate President (D) beaten by truck driver (R) who paid under $200 for his campaign

Great! The more winning candidates who have no experience in how government operates, the better! Let's get back to the days of citizen politicians. It can't be that difficult to serve in public office, right?

I don't know - ask AOC.

+1. You can't have it both ways - Durr is unfit to hold office because he was a truck driver, yet AOC is not unfit to hold office even though she was a bartender. I don't have a problem with either.

You don’t have a problem with Durr’s bigotry?

Total non sequitur. Regardless, I do have a problem with his bigotry, but I fail to see how that has anything to with his background, which is what people on here have primarily criticized him for.

It’s not remotely a non sequitur, nor is his lack of experience what people on this thread have primarily criticized him for. One post criticized him for that. I don’t love that, but people have to start somewhere and it’s not like he’s someone running for the big office but who will be or was totally in over their head (W, Trump, the Rock keeps threatening to…).

His bigotry, about which he appears to have been out and proud, is an enormous disqualification. No one with that level of bigotry belongs in government. In 2021 it is unforgivable to be quoting right wing memes about other cultures and groups.

Dem here - let's call a spade a spade. He hates Muslims and Ilhan Omar hates Jews. Seems to even out in terms of bigotry.

I’m not defending his comments/bigotry. I’m pointing out that I provided a valid example of somebody on the left also lacking relevant experience (AOC as a bartender or Bernie as a for all intents and purposes bum) and you brought up a different point that hadn’t previously been a part of the conversation. So yes, it is a non sequitir

Amazing that this even had to be pointed out.

It’s true though. This man is just an uneducated blue collar rube. He has no idea how to represent a constituency. He has no understanding of law. I can virtually guarantee he’s never read “Roberts Rules of Order” and therefore has zero understanding of parliamentary procedures in a legislative body. He’s just a ordinary Joe Simpleton. Exactly the wrong sort of person who should be in politics. The fact that he “won” an election without even mounting a campaign is proof he’s unfit for office.

The elitism of the left is nauseating. Hope to see more people like Mr. Durr run.

They do, lots of blue collar worker Democrats run and win. You know, like AOC - the one you all keep dragging as “just a cocktail waitress”? Do you know how many elitists and wealthy people the GOP runs? Your standard bearer only craps in gold toilets, for petes sake.

The Democrat that this guy defeated was an iron worker. He did go on to have other experiences before state senate (labor union, local politics), but he was hardly a "liberal elite".

This is beyond hilarious.

If you believe only $2300 was spent on his campaign I have a bridge to sell you. There was no doubt a ton of outside dark GOP money spent.

Doubtful GOP would have wasted money on this campaign when the guy was thought to be a shoo-in.
