What is downtown Frederick like?

Lots of white people.

Would absolutely have this response if someone asked about living there (although, I know, it is changing). But to visit for a weekend? That’s fine. I visit places in the Deep South and have a great time there. But I would never raise my kids there. Not to mention Frederick is so close to DC, people are used to plenty of diversity and you would be fine there.

Have fun!

Lot’s of Trumpers and ‘merica type vibes but there are also a lot of nice and decent people with modern values and tastes as well.

I swear some posters (or the same poster over and over again) keep portraying Frederick as something it is not. The city itself is staunchly blue.

And I'm puzzled by the implication that somehow a crowd of white people can't be diverse. They could come from all sorts of backgrounds and beliefs and ethnicities.

+1. I live in Frederick and downtown you're going to see rainbow flags and BLM signs.

Can anyone recommend some really good ice cream in downtown Frederick? We choose poorly in Harpers Ferry and ended up eating junk, when there was probably a better choice down the street. I’d like to avoid that in Frederick. Thanks.

Pop shop that other people mentioned IF you're up for ice cream floats. You can pick from alllll kinds of crazy soda flavors and several ice cream flavors.

I am white, my husband is black. we go to downtown silver spring, predominantly black and bethesda, predominantly white fairly often.
Whether or not the area is diverse doesnt away or deter us.
it gets tiring that everything has to be about race.

In Bethesda, no.

Once you are out of the DC metro area, yes.

Went to Westminster, MD and it was redneckville. Had a racial incident happen at an event and had to get security to control the crowd and escort our group to our cars.

Details or it didn’t happen.

I don't live that far from Westminster. Details, please. Otherwise I'm writing it off as a made up or deliberately misinterpreted situation.

I think some of you are confusing Frederick with Fredericksburg. Frederick was part of the union and votes blue, Fredericksburg has the big confederate cemetery and votes red.

I agree with the pop shop - my son was obsessed with their many flavors including some gross ones like boogers and bacon. The riverwalk , really a creekwalk, there is really cute. There is an ice cream shop there too and if you walk all the way down, it leads to a beautiful park. It has one of those covered bridges for cool photos, lots of trees, the creek, and a cool playground.

There are a lot of disgusting people on this board who make everything about race and politics. OP asked about taking their kid to downtown Frederick for shops and ice cream. Do you people really think like this? Have you ever even been there? Most likely, these people are posting from their rich, white enclaves in Chevy Chase. I know people like this. They think white people who cannot afford to live in close in wealthy areas are racists. It's classist and narrow minded.
