I have serious doubts this poll is accurate or indicative of what will really happen. Trump has some hardcore followers, but not enough to get him elected. |
NP. Trump wouldn’t be my choice but you can’t say that Biden is always more liberal than republicans. There’s nothing “liberal” about literally forcing people to get something injected into their body. We may agree with it now but is this really the precedent you want to set? I don’t. What about if it’s something you disagree with next time? Remember that Democrats are going to lose big in the midterms. I’d rather keep our liberties, thanks. |
Socially liberal? Wasn’t Trump for gay marriage before Obama was? |
Exactly. Please nominate him again. |
| Hogan sucks almost as bad as Haley. |
|
Yes, at this point Haley/Hogan could probably beat Biden/Harris. The problem is that they have less than 5% chance of winning the Republican nomination.
The problem is that at this point, you need someone archly conservative, whether pro-Trump or not, to have a chance at winning the Republican nomination. The people best suited to win the Republican nomination are not suited to win the national election and vice versa. |
| The people who put such stock in polls are always the ones who get burned. |
Larry Hogan can thank Mitt Romney and John McCain for his 0% chance of appearing on a National ticket. McCain and Romney seemed to spend their entire post-presidential campaign careers stabbing Republicans in the back, making many Republicans wonder exactly how these two got to the top of the ticket. So no, there is no appetite for anyone like Hogan, who seems to only make news when disparaging his own party. |
No kidding. He gets nominated, not elected. We saw this show in 2020 and it is pretty much the same in 2024. |
| How about Romney-Haley? I think that'd work with the general electorate. |
And all the non college educated white men and the Hispanics and black men who are coming over to the Republican Party recently will stay home. Rockefeller Republicans are a non-starter these days. DeSantis seems to have some appeal to classic Republicans but also does not alienate Trump’s base like Romney and Haley. He would have a much better chance of winning a primary than Romney. |
AGAIN you’re skipping a crucial step to get to the general electorate. Why do I keep having to explain this to you people. |
| These people in this thread wishing for Haley, Romney, and Hogan must still be upset about donating all their money to Jeb in 2016. The posters are so inside their bubble and delusional it is precious to watch. |
It can’t possibly be news to you that the Republican base hates Mitt Romney, can it? I particularly love Hannity’s quote here: Lou Dobbs opined that “Romney is going to be associated with Judas, Brutus, [and] Benedict Arnold forever.” Tucker Carlson was so upset that he wouldn’t even say the senator’s name, explaining to viewers that the editorial decision was made “on the grounds that silly moral preening should not be rewarded with the publicity it is designed to garner.” Sean Hannity, adopting the Don Jr. “he’s just jealous!” take and concluded that “losing a presidential election ruins people.” On his radio show, Sebastian Gorka dubbed Romney a “skirt-wearing little pajama boy Millennial snowflake.” But it was Laura Ingraham who seemed to come closest to spontaneously combusting, calling Romney “the ultimate selfish, preening, self-centered politician,” calling for him to resign, and then, unintentionally hilariously, threatening to move to Utah to defeat him in 2024: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/02/mitt-romney-guilty-vote-reaction |
