My kid went through the CES program and it really is a lot more interesting and challenging than the regular curriculum. I feel my kids became much better writers; however, it had little to no impact on their reading skills. In fact, their map is almost the same at the end as it was when they started. If I had done more that wouldn't have been true, but the school isn't going to really do much for that at least not in my experience. And yes, I think you should feel badly. It doesn't seem right but they chose to use the 85% lottery so the selection wasn't based on high scores. |
Life isn’t fair. If this is the biggest unfairness you or your kid has experienced you’re doing great. |
DP. Had a kid go through CES too and it was transformational. I think the problem is that MCPS should be committed to supporting every kid to achieve their educational potential. A random lottery is the exact opposite of that. Can you imagine if they did lotteries for IEPs? The rationale from reading some of the offensive posts is that some kids don’t deserve enrichment because of who their parents are or their neighborhood. Why should any kid have wasted potential? |
Happened to my kid two years ago - and that was before COVID. Cogat was 99%, too. So, yeah, this is how it goes at MCPS. |
