Great in practice, nonfactor in games?

I have seen it both ways.

There are players that are much more comfortable/confident playing against their friends/teammates. Also, there are just playing for fun without parents watching/yelling on the sidelines.

There are also players that doesn’t like playing hard against their friends/teammates in scrimmages. These players typically play harder when the games count (ie more competitive).

Apparently my kid’s entire team is suffering from this syndrome this season. Outscored 25-4 in four games so far … and this is at an older, competitive level. But, hey “they look great in practice” supposedly.
