How much cash should I keep in my house? I never have cash. I think I should have some on hand. Is $100 enough? I don't even know what I need it for but I think I should have some.

We keep $200 in our Emergency "go" bag - everything we need if we ever have to evacuate suddenly. (We live in an area prone to wildfires). Of course, we raid that occasionally to pay for take out
|
| I don't think $100 is enough. Remember the derecho? Credit card machines weren't working, so gas stations were closed. I'd have enough for a tank or gas, a few nights in a hotel and some food. |
| Learned my lesson during the derecho. We now keep $1,000 in the house. |
Diito. And I alway have at least $100 in my purse.
|
| Post 9/11 we keep $3,000 in cash and water on hand. But we don't have "ready" bags, food and other necessities for the "just in case." |
| We used to keep $500 in the house, but we just slowly depleted it. |
|
I keep $500 in the gun safe.
When Bush/Cheney were in office, I kept $5000 and current passports. I was THAT concerned that they would institute martial law. |
| I have a really big jar of pennies. I'd like to have $500 cash tucked away. |
| My big jar of change added up to $380 bucks! |
But you kept the guns. Too funny. |
| We keep $500 in 20s and small bills. In a disaster, you will need to make change. |
| I don't keep any. If shit goes sideways, oh well. |
| We keep anywhere from $500 to $1,000; depending. My DH travels a lot so he is constantly using it, I'll look at it every 3 or 4 weeks and replenish it. |
| God almighty. These are the neighborhoods of well fed burglars. |
