What do you think of this house?

Looks like a convenient location to Old Town and DC. I know that it is currently pending, but if it were back on the market, how much do you think it would sell for?

And no, I am not the seller or agent, just another person trying to buy in this market and interested in this vicinity.

I like it, a lot.

I've seen quite a few of this split foyer type house in the Northern Virginia area and would say that this one looks a lot nicer than the average. But having said that, the layout is pretty much the same and I've also seen them selling for a good amount less (in Hayfield Farms area); is the location for this one that much better to demand such a premium?

not sure about the schools

Ugly. No curb appeal.

Horrible location, OP. Have you actually been there?

North Kings Highway and Route 1? I mean, I guess it would be convenient from a commuting perspective but that's a really congested area. Also, as a pp says, the schools aren't that good, if you care about that.

This house has no useable yard. Is OP an empty nester by chance?

I have checked out the area (Belle Haven/Fort Hunt). I also had some concerns about the schools and got a tour and wife (and kids) felt comfortable with it. We also met a couple of parents with kids in the public schools and felt better about it.

As far as congestion, I will be going into DC for work and it seemed like most of the congestion was heading south on Route 1. It also looked like there were some other roads besides Route 1 to take (GW Parkway and Fort Hunt Road).

I really liked the houses in that particular area as many are custom built and have their own distinguishing characteristics, but there are some major hills in those neighborhoods.

Didn't we just see this house? The DH was writing the post about whether or not to paint the railing?

I don't like split foyers type houses for a number of reasons so I'm automatically bias, but I do like the 4 season room in the back. Are the windows new by chance? They would be costly to replace if not.

OP here, I think you are right, this house looks vaguely familiar, but as mentioned earlier by PP, this split foyer is not uncommon for this area.

That is one of the ugliest houses I have ever seen.

Either the expectations are far higher for Fairfax schools, or there's an enormous double standard at work. Those schools would be considered fine to great in DC, Silver Spring, Alexandria and much of Arlington.

I have to agree. It's very dated looking on the outside. I would not even bother going in. Plus, although the split foyer is bigger than many I've seen, the railings are a hazard with children (ever try to pry your child's head from between the rails?).

Yep, this house IS pending, to another DCUM'er. Maybe you guys can work something out.

I like the house. I like MCM houses in general, and this one seems to be well-kept. It has some great decorating potential for anyone who wants to run with the MCM theme and colors. The asking price seems great for 4 bdrm/3 bath in Fairfax County, and from the little I've seen of the neighborhood, it seems very nice.
