Acupuncture for Hormonal Harmony?

Anonymous
Ever since the birth of my child 3 years ago, my hormonal wellness has been all over the place. Before I became a parent in my early thirties, I definitely had a few days of mood swings (an awful but temporary combination of irrational irritability, mild depression, and an ability to easily sweat the small stuff) that I could more or less keep under control with exercise and diet. However, now it seems to happen in chunks of time throughout the month (maybe tied in with ovulation now too?) When the grey cloud lifts, life is great! But otherwise, it's tough on me since I feel like it is all so out of my control and my spouse, for exactly the same reason. My own mother definitely had this same issue when I was a child and it left a lasting, and negative, impression on our relationship; something I'd like to avoid repeating with my own child. In any case, I'd prefer to regulate things naturally (my blood pressure skyrockets with any sort of hormonal therapy) and was wondering if anyone out there has used acupuncture successfully to get their hormones in check and regain a sense of harmony in their life. Or uncovered any other wellness breakthroughs such as dietary supplements, meditation, etc.?

I have used acupuncture successfully to deal with hormonal headaches, yes. My coworker also uses acupunture for hormonal & harmony/balance issues (she did not go into detail about her symptoms - we're not close, so I didn't ask). She definitely was positive about her experience.

I tried accupuncture, but only one session so I couldn't tell a difference. What has worked is evening primrose oil. I suck at taking medicine on a regular basis but this is one I make sure I take. I have the same issue as you. After childbirth my hormones were a mess, I think I developed Fibromyalgia as well because I started feeling all kinds of phantom pains that my doctor couldn't find any reason for. I noticed my acne was also flaring up a lot when I never had this issue before.

I was told to switch to an all organic diet to control my hormones but I didn't notice a change really just that my food bill had gone up. Though I do think organic is better. I also tried meditation and massages. The only thing that has worked for me is the Evening Primrose oil. My mood is better, my skin is clearer, and I get less pain around my time of the month too.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear! Thank you.

Hadn't heard of this yet. Great lead!

Interested in replies because I have similar problems as OP, mostly around ovulation. I hate it.

I have been using acupuncture for a year now for hormonal harmony. I am better now (but not back to "normal"). I don't know if I can give acupuncture all the credit. I had my IUD removed, I am more active (I run, walk, play tennis, and do yoga.) and a I try to eat better (doesn't always work). While the imbalance has been awful, it has become better and I have become more tolerant of the side effects. I hope this is helpful.
