Consolidated VA Elections Thread

Wait, Trump and Chase told us this election was rigged and not fair. Are Republicans still going with that or is it far now since Youngkin won?

You don’t want to live in VA or the USA?

Not PP, but I thought Va was smarter than this. You learn something everyday.

Your opinion.

Well we have different definitions of smart

A majority of people in a state having different opinions does not make them less intelligent than you. I’m sure it easier for you to believe you are superior.

This. And yet, when called on it, they double down. Talk about sad.

If you don’t want us to think you’re dumb then stop pretending and just come out and tell us that “different opinion”.

Which is it?
You like status quo because you are doing ok. Screw everyone else.
You are ok with systemic racism. It doesn’t hurt you so it’s ok.
You don’t want to break the cycle of poverty.
You think people are struggling because of moral failings.
You think some races are inherently better than others.
You want to restrict elections to make it different for some people to vote.
You don’t like LGBTQ+.
You do want to ban abortions.
You want to force your religious beliefs on everyone else.

Could be more than one. Or all?

Check, check, check. Straight down the list of Dem talking points. There is one party that seeks to segregate people into their little boxes and one party who has talked about poverty but done actually done nothing about it and it ain't the Rs. As for your #1, see above smug elitist posts.

So share this “different opinion” that you have. What informed, rational opinion led you to vote for Youngkin?

Show us how you weren’t manipulated.

I don't have to explain myself to you, but if you want to know what drove a lot of people to vote for Younkin, reread this post as well as the smug little nitwits' posts above who think they are superior people to the "uneducated."

This should be easy for you to prove me wrong.

What is this “different opinion” of yours? This well-informed, rational opinion.

You will never get an explanation. Half of them don’t really understand why they voted that way, and the other half who do won’t say it allowed.

Are you really this dense? Is reading comprehension not your thing? I here I thought you were so smart and educated and all that.

Looks like exit polls said a lot of white people flipped to Youngkin but other groups picked McAuliffe. Youngkin did an awesome job playing on the white victim card in a gentler way than Trump did.

I was one of those people. Youngkin had no chance. Period. Not in a state that went for Joe by +10 just a year ago. The results of this election simply fo not match the poling. That means there is exactly one reason, and one reason only, why he won: Fraud. Massive, unprecedented fraud.

The republicans stole this election. There is no other reason.

Polls did well this time. Youngkin was favored to win and he did. Maybe they've figured out how to do polls now.

Perfect example of Republican fearmongering.

This post illustrates perfectly why democrats lose. You haven’t listed a single real issue that impacts Americans on a day to day basis (read: their wallets). Try this:

You like tax cuts.
You like knowing that school will be open tomorrow and you won’t have to make last minute arrangement for daycare or WFH.

Everything else is noise. When will the democrats wake up.

LOL, don’t you know how these two conflict? LCPS had to cancel school for all of Thanksgiving week because they can’t pay subs enough to incentivize them to work. Cutting taxes will mean cutting school funding from the state, which will just make budgets worse.

Actually non college educated white women came out in droves for Youngkin. So it can be inferred with a fair degrees of confidence that his voters were defiantly not of superior intelligence, based upon that one little factoid, not to mention that they were so easily encouraged to vote against their own self interests. So yes the lack of a college degree. Especially when we are talking about white women in this area is a pretty good indication of a less than average level of intelligence. superior but by definition definitely more intelligent, you do know that white women without a college definition came out in droves for Yoingkin.

I’ll never understand why people vote against their own self interests. If you only knew just how insulated people like me are from decisions people like you make you’d never stop weeping. The fact is that many people vote for dems because we want our country, states and towns to be better for everyone. I didn’t lose a dime under trump. I didn’t miss a day of work because I was able to work from home, and I will be able to going forward. I have great health insurance, I live very comfortably in a really safe neighborhood, my kids go to the best public schools in the area, oh and I will retire in a few years because I’ve amassed more wealth than I could possibly spend in my golden years, and I’m 50, which means I’ll pass on wealth to my offspring.

Yep I am a democrat but the truth is there are a lot of people in this area whose lives aren’t really affected one way or the other. They don’t live anywhere near the edge. I do well regardless of who is in power. I truly feel sorry for all of the rubes who bought into the nonsense that was spewed during this election. But keep voting against your own self interests after all the less you have, the more I have, and quite frankly if you don’t care why should I.

Now buckle up buttercups, or should I say bittercups and hang onto those bootstraps Because you are going to need too. Youngkin lied to get your vote your life and your schools will be no better this time next year and mine will be not have changed at all.

The quiet parts out loud.

Truth, and I love you for saying it. The lives of the people in Red Virginia will get shittier under Youngkin and they will never figure out that they did it to themselves. I have enough money to buy my way out of any mess Youngkin creates, but they can’t say the same. Sure, put vouchers in place. It won’t be enough to cover private school tuition but I can more than afford the difference. Middle class Bob in western Loudoun? Not so much. Enjoy your defunded public school, Bob!

I vote blue, but most of Youngkin's policies will be good for my family assuming that he can get them passed. We'll get a tax cut and it will likely be at the expense of services that we don't use. Maybe we'll get a voucher that we'll essentially just view as a deduction in tuition that we don't need. I'm assuming it will be up to the counties to figure out how to fund vouchers and schools, and I'm sure Fairfax will have an easier time of it than already cash strapped rural counties. Maybe the state will cover the expense, but again, cuts will have to come from somewhere to pay for it. Maybe he passes abortion restrictions, but Maryland and DC are 20 minute drives from here. I guess firearm restrictions could become even looser, but if someone wants to cosplay at being a gunslinger I'll just chuckle.

Why did you vote for McAuliffe?

DP. This question tells us so much about you, and Republicans generally. You really can’t conceive that someone might vote against their own interests because they are affluent enough to absorb it and want to help people who are less fortunate than them?

The reason the parties are so far about is because they have very different morals and values. Republican look out for themselves exclusively and say eff the rest of you. Democrats look at the world and feel like they can’t vote just to enrich themselves at the expense of others who have less when they already have more than enough.

This nonsense is neither true nor helpful. The two parties went to the same things, sometimes they have different ways of getting there. If you stop with the demonizing and start listening and thinking, you'd be able to understand that.

He hired the lawyer who cheats to win. Not surprised.

As Fairfax County was busy both reducing Youngkin’s vote total (there were subtractions within 6 minutes) and adding votes through mail-ins, more honest Virginia Beach, who wasn’t finished counting yet, added another 125K to Youngkin’s total. That was too much for Fairfax and that was that.

Looks like NJ is going red too. Minneapolis not ousting the police. And Seattle was apparently sick of the Dems as well, as was Ohio.

IMO they shot themselves in the foot by closing school. What an impact they made on so many people day in and day out for a year. I certainly hope it is a case study for the future.

They made informed, reasonable decisions based on the info we had and resources available. You think we have staffing issues now? Imagine if you forced teachers in last fall before the vaccine and as numbers were skyrocketing.

Our schools (local, not state) didn’t just say F it and send kids back in.

Sorry that pisses you off so much that you had to vote for a Trump Republican.

I voted D like I always do but your attitude is exactly why the Rs won and I’ve been saying that.
I also remember that Northam allowed schools to open hybrid in August 2020 and Fairfax had some of the best corona numbers in the state - not the worst - such that we should have considered being more conservative than he allowed with school reopening. And I also didn’t forget that the Dept of Health approved of the hybrid plan as well.

So you’re pissed at FCPS?

I am just telling you where the people are so the Ds don’t miss the mark next time.

Most of the parents don't remember the nuance of what the governor approved vs. what happened. All they saw is that public schools weren't open for most of 2020-2021, while private schools did open full time.

I agree.

Same here.

At this point this is the government we deserve. The Democrats always have something to prove, the Republicans can just spread lies and misinformation. I’m done being frustrated by this, especially when it has so little impact on my actual life. I will continue to vote Democrat and hope for the best, but I’m not even going to be surprised if Trump wins again because obviously the American electorate is not better than this.
