Holiday gift ideas for caregivers in daycare

Anonymous
I need ideas for something not too extravagant but not too cheap. There are 3 teachers and I want to get them all something.

Thanks in advance!

Money or gift cards. Always. And a VERY thoughtful note.

I have worked in daycare, preschool and have been a nanny for many years-I always appreciate money or a gift card(some families even went so far as to give me a gift card for something they know I love(Borders, Sephora, Target, etc.) However, the best gift I ever got from a family was pictures of the kids in these wooden frames that the kids had decorated themselves-the kids took the time to paint and put glitter on the frames-I will treasure these FOREVER!

I gave each DC teacher a small gift box of lotion/bath gel plus a $50 gift certificate to Olive Garden. They went out of their way to tell me how much they loved taking their boyfriends or family out for dinner over the holidays.

I'm at a home daycare. I'm giving the main DCP one weeks pay and her helper a half weeks pay. It will end up $350.

I'm also giving her 4 children small gifts as well. She always throws a christmas party and gives each kid a small present.

I'm interested in this question, too.

we gave DS's main teachers $75 and $50 each to the three other teachers in the room. I recently lost my job and would like to know if smaller $$$ gifts are OK/appropriate.

PP here. I meant to say we gave those gifts last year.

Finances are tight in our house. Our son is in a church-based daycare, so last year I baked cookies for all the teachers. Sounds cheap next to a $75 gift card, but I wanted to make sure they knew that we appreciated them.

One year, we asked each parent to contribute $10 to do gift cards for the teachers. We got Visa gift cards and that was a big hit. With 20 kids, we got $200 and did one $100 card for the lead teacher and 2 $50 cards for the assistant teachers.

I have also done fancy (homemade) soup mixes for each teacher.

I have done a gift card to the movies for one of the special teachers from our former daycare who babysat for us on the side. She loved this because she treated her 2 teenage daughters and then gave them the rest of the card to share with their friends.

I gave a $20 Target gift card last year.

last year, we were at a daycare center with one main teacher and two assistants. i gave the main teacher $40 gift card to target and the others $30 worth.

now, we're at a home daycare run by just one person and there's about 6 kids at various times throughout the day. i should be giving more to her, right? we just started recently.

one week's worth of pay just seems like a lot, but is that just me being cheap?

I think that you should give what you are comfortable giving, and don't worry about being cheap.

If you have a credit card that gives you points, you can get "free" gift cards for your teachers. This is what I did for Christmas last year. I got $50 gift cards for my daughter's two teachers, and $25 for each of my son's four teachers.

Target gift cards. $30 for lead teacher, 20 each for the 3 aides. Accompanied by homemade cookies and a nice note.

In this economy, gift cards are ideal.

We are at a large daycare/preschool center. We've usually done $100 for the lead teacher and then $25 or $50 for the others depending on how involved they are on a daily basis.
