Started eating healthy and the consequence.... Gas.

Quite embarrassing but I am so gassy. After a decade of eating poorly- carbs and sugar! I am now introducing veggies, fruits and whole grains into my diet. I tried doing it slowly because of the fiber load but it doesn't seem to matter. I stink!
DH had to leave the room tonight when we were watching tv. Will my body eventually adjust? Should I buy gas pills? Anything I can do to counteract it?
Thanks.

It's actually quite possible that it's only one specific food that is causing the gas. Are you eating raw vegetables? That's usually the culprit. My advice is to switch to only cooked veggies for one week and see if that makes a difference. If it does, then slowly reintroduce raw veggies (meaning one at a time) to see if maybe it's just one type of raw veggie causing the problem.

If you're eating a lot of salads, it might be just one ingredient, like raw onions, that is causing the problem.

Veggies like broccoli stir up the fart machine for sure.

Are you eating any "healthy" packaged foods that may contain added fiber like chicory root? When I'm tracking cals I'm more likely to pick up stuff like a vitamuffin (easy to track treat that's filling) but it always backfires--literally.

Or artificial sweeteners?

Over the counter anti-gas pills help me. They are just charcoal.

MIL farts up a storm when she eats cucumber seeds

WWatch out for inulin--cheap fiber they add to processed food. And try drinking peppermint tea.

Chlorella tablets may help too!

Beano helps. Also watch the broccoli and cabbage as they have lactose and will cause more gas. Your body will get used to more fiber but not to the lactose if you have a sensitivity.

I don't think broccoli has lactose. Sure you're not thinking of calcium, pp?

Pp here. Yes you're right of course those have calcium not lactose. I have found that the cabbage and cruciferous veg to be more gas inducing - at least for me.

Oh yes, look out for artificial sweetners. Those cause horrible problems for me. I can barely stand to be around myself.

Green peppers are my enemy - raw or cooked, I'm a fart machine for hours. Beans, too, of course.

My spouse and I just joke about it now, and keep matches handy.
