| What's up with this? Coincidence or troll? |
| My guess is that Beauvoir is a benchmark. It also has large classes, so although admissions may be competitive, they do accept a large number of kids at pre-K and K. So more families may be considering Beauvoir than some other schools. |
I think it's a troll . First , I don't think that after months of the application process real applicant families would come on DCUM to get help with their final decision. I think that's pretty laughable. Ask their good friends, visit the school again maybe, but come on here and ask" please tell me about the curicculum ? No, I don't believe that is a real parent posting. Instead , what I think all of these threads are , are basically echo chambers , in which parties with a vested interest( low man on totem pole I. AD's office at say , GDS,posts a thread" now that the parent welcomes are over.... share your gut reaction " and then sock puppets( from a different computer/ IP address) a bunch of negative stereotypes about Beauvoir only" Enter some actual Beauvoir and GDS parents who the troll then bates along. There is a fine line between a spontaneous natural discussion like the St Pats thread, and an orchestrated one( such as the count em 3 GDS vs Beauvoir thread) . In real life, there are just not that many people trying to choose between those two schools. I don't think the posts are genuine, and I am offended by the stereotypes being spread in them . A booster should be able to promote her DC's school or the school which employs her( just my speculation) without bashing another school , posting a fake scenario that only admissions season. Would allow her to hide behind. |

Well, isn't it time for parents to make decisions? And I believe that Beauvoir accepts a relatively large number of children for pre-k, because there are more classes, so there's bound to be some overlap wrt admits.
These posters seem authentic to me. Perplexed, but at the sme time pleased to discuss the fact they have such marvelous options. And then other posters -- pleased to report that they in the past pondered such marvelous options -- chime in. Cue past/present Beauvoir parents to warn that Beauvoir is the one true path to STA/NCS. Which is the alternative to Deal/Wilson/Yale or jail...probably jail. And we're off. No, I am not a troll. I have never contributed to any of these threads, because DC does not go to any of those schools. Although some aspects of these threads are hard to believe -- no talk of retirement/college savings when pondering paying 35k (and rising) a year for 14 years for multiple children -- I enjoy reading the questions and responses because I suspect they are indeed quite real. We all want to believe that we can guarantee success for our children by choosing the right path, even if such guarantees are increasingly difficult to come by. That's why we're all on dcum. Aren't these types of queries inevitable? |

No, I don't think it has to be "inevitable" that the dialogue about school choice is driven by threads like" So open house welcomes for new families are over, lets hear your gut reactions and superficial impressions.
Followed by multiple posts in which poster also shares her superficial impressions and stereotypical views. No, I don't think that kind a thing helps anyone, and it might hurt a schools reputation since this is a publicly viewed forum and much of what is being posted is innuendo that goes unchallenged |
Not true. I posted one of them and I am very real. In person in speaking with families you often get only the cheerleaders. Here you can get the polar opposites and although often extreme, can provide some balance. |
| What a ridiculous thread. You could start another one for almost any other grouping of schools. Who cares if people are comparing Beauvoir with other schools? They should!! |

I agree with the person who said it's because Beauvoir admits so many. Most schools seem to have only one class at the PreK level, and only 1-2 at the K level. IIRC, Beauvoir has 3 PreK classes, and the number of students per grade reaches the 80s by K. That's 4x the size of many other schools. So lots of people are getting admitted to Beauvoir, and thus lots of people are comparing schools with Beauvoir to make a decision.
Plus, Beauvoir seems to have a couple of particularly enthusiastic supporters this year, who are very active in promoting Beauvoir's benefits on these threads. As a result, the threads discussing Beauvoir are getting lots of traffic and staying near the top of the screen. I have not checked, but I'd bet there are other comparison threads in the past few weeks that don't involve Beauvoir, but they just got pushed to pages 2-10 of the forum. |

In theory, what PP's are saying about 64 Beauvoir admits driving the thread traffic sounds plausible, but in reality that is just a theory and it does not play out in real life.
Why ? In real life, not that many people applying to Private school even read DCUM. The accepted families, less so. In real life, yes, Beauvoir has 64 spots for Pre-K, but in my personal experience of prior years most of those spots go to sibs, alums, teachers kids and "high priority candidates" These people have made up their mind long ago. For some, shortly after their children were born. Beauvoir has many high profile families. These are not the kid of people to come on DCUM and publicly wring their hands about what do we, "the people" think about the vibe at Beauvoir? They are grown ups. Their child has a school . They're done. It was most likely not even a "process" for them it was a phone call. Done. Over. Next. In DC's class of 64 kids a few years ago, about 5 families had absolutely no connection to the school. Not a lot of deliberating going on there. So, why 3 or 4 Beauvoir threads ? Someone has Beauvoir on the brain, but its unlikely the admitted families. So, no, I don't believe all of these threads which start off with something gossipy as a prompt like," so, parent welcomes are over, what were your impressions ?" are anything more than pot stirring, inuendo , such as the veiled references to "the culture" at Cathedral schools "later on". There is a Christian Cathedral attached to these schools. When PP's make comments like " the culture" at the school later on "may not be a good one for your family", make no mistake, that is inuendo for mocking a whole host of Christian religions. Its a very ugly tactic. THe Episcopal church is egalitarian and universal in its acceptance of all faiths, it deserves better than that. |
No.....I did the thread "now the welcomes are over" and I was indeed deciding! |
| 17:46, you are absolutely nuts. If I were choosing a school this year, you might single-handedly drive me away from Beauvoir. |
   Most. Hysterical. Post. EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| I started one of the threads (B vs Key.) We have ZERO connection to the school and we are still deciding but leaning towards Beauvoir. |
I can't stop laughing at it! The numbers, the breakdown of the numbers, the conspiracy theory, the religious insults. Rich. |
CRAZY :-o |
