Actually, not crazy at all. I've had to do some social marketing myself, and I've been involved with it at the corporate level, and the upshot of my own experience is that I wouldn't be surprised at all if some "low man on the AD totem poll" weren't trying to get a reaction to an open house or put his/her school in a good light. Plus DCUM's wack-job religion haters dive-bomb any and all possible targets for their pent-up venom, sort of like the parasites they are. And we all know about DCUM's all-purpose trolls who live (because, let's face it, they don't have real lives) to stir the pot. There are lots of people who are happy to be a part of a fake thread. Lots of sad, pathetic people. PP isn't crazy to suspect this. Unfortunately! |
Right. I was basically with 17:46 until that last graph when the poster just drove right over the cliff, Thelma and Louise style. FWIW, I infer most folks who reference "the culture" are talking about two points: first, the single sex schools and, second, wealth and privilege. 17:46, you sanely started your post about the many families at Beauvoir, including "many high profile families." The definition of high profile usually includes wealth, privilege, and status. While there are some families who prefer for their kids' school to be wholly secular, I think if they were posting in these threads, they would just say/ask that. And folks do on occasion: "How much chapel is there at NPS?" "What role does the Episcopal Church play at St. Pat's or Beauvoir?" "How Quaker is Sidwell?" For OP, based on some parents I've met through my kids' school, I think there are a few out there who do come here with questions. DC is their first born, they've lived successful lives, and they are panicked about making a mistake. A kid can have a bad experience, but, by and large, these are all great schools and no kid's life will be ruined if they spend four years at Beauvoir, St Pat's or GDS. |
I don't think any people reading or posting on this thread ( including you by your own admission) are people with any stake. There are people who like to spread gossip, and people who like to challenge the spreading of stereotypes. Most parents applying to Private school do not even read DCUM, parents of admitted children even less so. This thread and many others are just echo chambers. The idea that a parent would "driven away from a school" based on what they read here, is laughable. |
Willing to wager that this is 17:46. |
