| They truly believe that somehow we gain an hour of daylight. I can't believe the facebook posts I have seen. One woman said that it helped the farmers because their crops have "more sun to grow in". I almost hurled. |
| Well the minutes of sunlight ARE getting longer every day. |
Actually, they are still 60 seconds each. But yes, there are more minutes of daylight. Although DST has no effect on that, it does move more of the daylight into the hours we are usually up and about; that's helpful. But what has this to do with politics? |
| Who cares? |
Again, you should realize that one of the awesome functions of DCUM is to just blow off steam. And, I'm sorry, but if we have people so stupid as to not understand that DST does not affect the quantity of sunlight available, that's worthy of a vent. If it doesn't matter to you, don't click! |
| I personally gain an hour of daylight since I do not get up until late morning. So there. |
Me too! |
| Here's how it works, using nice round numbers. Right now we are close to the spring equinox, a week from today. That would be 12 hours of daylight. Under ET, that would be (more or less) 6 am to 6 pm. With DST, it's closer to 7 am to 7 pm. For me, it's definitely preferable to have the extra hour of daylight at dinner time rather than before I get out of bed. And in three months, at the summer solstice, we get about 15 hours of daylight, which would be around 4:30 am to 7:30 pm under EST or 5:30 am to 8:30 pm -- I definitely prefer the latter, and would be happy to shove another half hour or hour of daylight from am to pm. Super DST, anyone? |

OP,
Are you serious? You are only now understanding the level of ignorance in our midst, in general, not just about DST. Maybe you're not too swift yourself. |
| It's best to not underestimate the stupidity of the average American. (And, 50% of the people are dumber than that!) Which explains the Republican Party. And that fact that cauliflower is still purchased in stores. And that Kin Kardashian had a TV show. |
Cauliflower??? |

DST is a creature of a lazy people. It is totally stupid. OP I hear you 100 percent. They always said it was for the farmers, which makes no sense because farmers start their day really early and would prefer to have morning sun. And as you noted, just because we change the time so people get in to work later and come home later, doesn't mean there's actually more sun! Stupidest thing ever. Where I can sign a petition to scrap this.

Why would you rather have daylight till 8:30? I'd rather be able to put he kids to bed when it is dark. Summer is so hard to put them to bed when the sun is still shining brightly! I hate the sudden change. I love the gradual lengthening of daytime in the spring months. But that's gradual, it is easy to deal with. It's the sudden change that is so hard on our family. And is seems pointless. |
It annoys me that people like you think that's one of the intended functions. Nobody said this was a place where it was appropriate to come vent your peeves. |
| I hate it!!! It took my baby a whole week to adjust. It took me almost a week too. |
