How is the neighborhood where this home is located? (Close to Wyngate ES in Bethesda)

How is the commute to downtown DC via the red line (bus and then metro?)? Child friendly? Safe? Marginally walkable to anything?

Step one- drive by house.

Safe?! It's Bethesda. Jeez.

I can't comment on the commute time to DC but I imagine there is a ride-on bus nearby. Melvern is nestled in the neighborhood and likely walkable to the elementary and middle school. I would say child-friendly, in general there are several kids near my kids age within a one block radius. You may not get across the street or next door because a given block has a spread of teenagers, empty nesters, no kids, younger kids etc. If you have a dog you will really get to know the neighbors. Tons of people out with their dogs this past weekend.

Safety wise car break-ins are not uncommon so don't leave stuff in your car and lock your car always. it's not a break-in every week but once every few years your block may be hit. I monitor the crime reports and house break-ins aren't common(car break ins are more common) but it does happen. There is no place that is crime free, even Bethesda so the usual advice of lock up, don't advertise what you have, don't be in an isolated spot parking lot etc) with no one else around, have lighting on side of house, porch etc, be aware of your surroundings would all apply.

Thanks! Would you say it's walkable to anything? Or is it pretty much car (or bus) dependent?

I would say car dependent or at least some form of transportation dependent. We are in the Ashburton neighborhood and I love it since we can walk to the library, Giant, Balducci's etc. If you don't want to be car dependent, look up our way. Good luck!

PP here, it isn't really walkable to much, not like a Starbucks is a block away. The Wildwood shopping center ( with a Starbucks) , the YMCA, Montgomery Mall, and Downtown Bethesda are all close but to me it would be a long walk 30 minutes to an hour and not practical if you had a strict time constraint or needed to carry things or had young kids walking with you. If you were looking for walkable things to do with the kids you could walk to the school playgrounds, Arylawn park, the YMCA and maybe the private pool on Fernwood Rd. We used to take the kids to the middle school tennis court to play on the weekends when they were younger.

It's a beautiful neighborhood. The house is probably small, but it's a good location off the highway. Not that close to Metro. Not walkable to anything other than the YMCA, but close to everything by car.

Looks like a cute, cozy house. It's one of the more affordable neighborhoods in Bethesda. There are buses on Old Georgetown. As one PP said not walkable to anything but the Y. There's grocery shopping, coffee, casual restaurants, a CVS, banks, hair stylist, wine and beer, etc about 2 miles north on Old Georgetown (at Democracy Blvd).

We saw that house, and it is cute. It is overpriced though. The set up is very choppy, and the basement is dark with low ceilings. The kitchen is nice, but not quite as nice as in the pictures. It didn't quite work for us.

Doesn't matter what we think of the house it isunder contract, good neighborhood though
