What an odd question. Does your child have no defining characteristics other than ethnicity?

Of the schools I toured, Sidwell had the highest visible diversity. But if you taught at an independent school, you should know more than me!

My child is black but there has to be more to this question - I would not know how to answer that. What are you looking for? What is considered "best" in your book, what characteristics?
Is it a school that has a high proportion of blacks?
A school that has a high proportion people of all races?
A school that what?

What are you looking for exactly?

Hmmm doubting veracity of this poster.

I will bite. I am assuming you mean where would a child of color feel welcomed and happy? I would hope all schools..seriously you hope that we have gotten beyond this sort of stuff.

sorry for not being more clear. if any of you had children of color you would probably understand, but a place where a child of color would feel welcome and not be the only child of color in her class. i agree, we should be beyond this but sadly we are so not in america. i am sure WIS is a good place but i was wondering about other schools. and yes, i taught at st. patrick's and i saw first hand how they treated the Black children there but that's for another post.

OP, if you are an educator and have an inside track to Independant schools, why do you need to post your question here ?

If your main criteria is that your child not be only black child in the class, perhaps Beauvoir or WIS, or Sidwell, or GDS, or....Those schools are all so different though, ya know.

If you feel like black children are scape goated when they attend a mostly white school, I think you might need to exorcize some of your own fears/demons a bit first, because if that is your gut, you might not trust any school with white administration and it is unlikely that you will find a 100% black administation at any DC Private.
