Wrong. Try again. |
Do you not realize that they removed the reversible lanes that provided extra road capacity on Connecticut during rush hour? Good grief. City wide traffic volumes are at pre-pandemic levels. |
So with one less lane, and "traffic volumes at pre-pandemic levels" we should be seeing absolute gridlock on Connecticut Avenue right now, right? Sure, it gets a little backed up Southbound at Nebraska as it ALWAYS has, but other than that, there just isn't as much congestion as there was in 2019. Ask me how I know. The addition of a bike lane based on current volumes, given the addition of turn lanes, will not have material impact on the Avenue. |
PP is simply arguing that DC should prioritize the desires of cars. In DC, it is impossible to get anywhere without a car, according to cars. And who better to know this than cars? Cars are the leading authority on the needs of cars! |
| I live along Reno Rd. Will DDOT agree to put Reno and 34th St on a "road diet"? Or is this street DDOT's reliever plan for much of the vehicle traffic that will be diverted from Connecticut Ave. as the result of changes that will contain capacity there? |
Do you mean to argue against Induced Demand or do you only invoke it when it’s convenient? |
| Personally, I'm starting to think that I'll support whichever side of this debate has fewer people who refer to the street involved as "the Avenue," as if it was the only avenue in D.C. |
You're right, all your traffic counting data that shows that volumes are back to where they were in Feb 2020 and that commute times have increased substantially have convinced me. Oh wait, that's right, you provided none of that because you're just making up stuff. Cool story. |
As a funny aside, there is a restaurant on Conn Ave in ChCh DC that is called 'The Avenue': https://www.theavenuedc.com/! |
Egotism is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of stupidity. |

For those of us who haven’t checked into this thread in a couple hundred pages, are the bike lanes still going ahead, or not?
For the record, my prediction is they will go in, people will scream bloody murder, and they will come out. But who knows! |
They have a pretty good burger, but they serve it on one of those tiny planks, so things can get messy. Worth it, though! |
The plan is still apparently going ahead but they are not supposed to start installing them until 2025 and they are maybe 6 months behind the original schedule already and further delays should be expected. Some signs of chickening out are already evident. They will now reduce the width, which comes pretty soon after the fiasco in MoCo which probably got the city scared. There are also many contingent processes and hurdles that it’s possible they never get installed in the first place. However, so much planning and cost is going into this that if they do actually go forward they will be probably stay for at least a decade. Relatedly, one of the coming hurdles is cost. Only $7m was allocated and it’s definitely going to cost multiples of that which will require future council appropriations and future opportunities for a monkey wrench. At this stage, there is legitimately zero reason to think about these things for 18-24 months which is when they are supposed to present the design. |
I heard the council was going to base its decision on this very thread. Once it hits 200 pages they will count each post and see if there is more support for or against the bike lanes and decide accordingly. |
