| DD has an upcoming 4-year checkup at the pediatrician, and she's going to get four shots, some kind of skin prick, and a blood draw. It's going to be rough, so I want to take her out afterwards for a glorious, gigantic, delicious, decadent ice cream sundae. We're in NW DC, and I'd love to take her to some kind of old-fashioned ice cream parlor-type place where the ice cream is amazing. Any suggestions? |
| Eh...Serendipity is the only thing that comes to mind. |
|
My suggestion is don't do it ... at least not right away.
Not trying to be mean but the side effects from the shots often include nausea, vomitting, upset stomach, etc. Nothing like a kid vomitting up a huge ice cream sundae. |
| I was going to suggest Dairy Godmother in Del Ray, but that's not close. How about Thomas Sweet in Georgetown? |
|
Was also going to suggest Thomas Sweet.
I've had two kids go through the 4-year shots without any adverse reactions. We went to Ben and Jerry's afterward, but it closed a few years ago. |
| I told my daughter she could have a treat after she had testing for independent school admission. Her choice of treats? A big box of Band-Aids that she could use as she pleased. Go figure. Never know what another person considers a treat. Ha,ha. |
What? |
I was good at a government agency office (age 3) and requested broccoli in lieu of the offered lollipop. 30 years later, this story is still in my mother's Top Ten. |

| when i was little and brought hom a great report card my mom said i could have anything i wanted, and i asked for a happy meal! gross |
| Boy do I miss Swensens. And Farrells, too. Those were the days. |
+1!!!! |
| I loved Swensen's so very much when I was a kid. |
| Serendipitys in G'town is really fun for a kid (I know some people don't like it but kids generally love it). It's a fun place with a like of whacky things on the wall and will take your child's attention away from the shots. The treats are so huge --you could share one. |
| I know I might get flamed for this and I am not trying to be a buzzkill, but you may want to consider something else as a "reward" or distraction from the appointment rather than food. Could start food as comfort association. From someone who has been there. |
