Gas or wood burning for the following rooms?
Living Room Family Room Library / office |
| Gas all |
| Gas in library, wood in living spaces. |
| Personal preference. We like the smell and sound of wood but others definitely prefer gas. Either is fine in this climate. |
| My husband and I disagreed on this. I gave in to gas and am so glad I did. No mess, dont have to buy wood, no wood pile attracting roaches, etc. in back yard, easy to turn on, and now we have 2 kids with athsma. Never looked back! |
| Gas, for all the reasons PP listed in particular the health reasons. Google the health effects of wood burning - not good |
| Wood burning in all. I hate gas fireplaces. Especially those horrific ones you can see from two sides (e.g., one way from the master bedroom, and one way from the master bath). |
| I've had both and never used my wood. Now that I have gas I use it all the time. |
| Gas, we have 3 in our house, living room, family room, basement play / workout room |
| Wood burning with a gas starter - best of both worlds. |
| I've never had a gas that actually gave off enough heat. Wood burning. |
Gas! Love just flipping a switch.
|
| GAS!!! i have had both and much prefer the ease and environmental benefits. |
You need to get one that has adjustable output and has a lot of BTUs. |

I have two questions on this topic, please:
1. If your gas fireplace was installed as a unit, which brand would you recommend as being the most realistic looking. (Some look like a fire picture in a TV, which is what I want to avoid). 2. Is the unit vented through a chimney or directly through the back wall? Thanks. |
