| Gas is vulgar. |
| Wood burning is a horrible health risk. Do some research. I would never buy wood burner. |
and inefficient |
| When I go for a walk in the winter and smell smoke from a wood fire I get a pang from childhood nostalgia. I so badly miss wood burning fireplaces! The #1 item on my wish list for our next house is a wb fireplace. I wish it didn't matter to me, but it does. |
| I love the sounds and smell of wood burning , but I can't ignore the health risks that are always in the news now. |
I have this nostalgia too. When I was a kid we always had a wood stove (vs. an open fireplace). They are actually quite efficient and can heat a small home pretty well on their own. I always wish we had one when there's a big storm and/or the power goes out in the winter. |

+1 for gas.
Health risk of wood is like using asbestos today (asbestos was very "efficient" too.) |
luv my wood burner, electric out, no generator, no problem to make a hot cup of coffee and some scramble eggs. Mine is vented through a chimmney........... IMHO I would do a combination, family room must be wood, and gas the rest.
|
| I would love a wood fireplace in a living room or office and maybe a wood stove in a family room (for actual warmth). |
You can use gas without power by using a battery. |
| We finally bought a house with a wood burning fireplace that I ALWAYS wanted. Turns out it have a downdraft issue and can rarely use it. Wish it was gas |
| We have a wood burning stove and love it. Much more efficient and cleaner than traditional wood fireplace. We converted from gas. |
| We have a wood-burning fireplace in our living room. We love it. We probably use it every other weekend in the winter/cold weather. Love being able to use it when power is out, which seems to happen frequently around here. |
