I have a 2 preschoolers. We can afford private school but if we have to deal with parents like on this forum, I'd rather send our kids to public. We are attracted to the curriculum, small class sizes, individualized attention and the extras but I wonder what the student population would be like. We just want nice down to earth kids.
The parents on this forum seem downright awful. I would hate for my kids to attend school with their children. |
I'm even worse than you think But come to the dark side! You might like it, luke.
|
| Visit the schools, ignore the people on these forum. My opinion is that preschool-2nd Grade is the most important educational opportunity...Choose wisely |
|
unfortunately, there are horrible parents everywhere public or private...
I would put what you think is best for your kids first, so if that's private school, I'm sure you'll find down to earth parents. |
| I have yet to meet a person I'd consider obnoxious at our private school (not a "Big 3" but a school that's popular, hard-to-get-into and mentioned on these boards a lot). Although I'm sure it varies by school- agree that you need to choose wisely! |
| No |
| Follow your gut. Everything on the internet is true, so your impression of private school parents, formed through perusing DCUM, should be your guide. |
OP here. I agree. I think that PK-2nd grade is most important for building a strong educational foundation. DH thinks lower school is not so important and that HS is all that matters. He was a slacker in elementary school, middle school and most of high school. He ended up at an ok college and then ivy league for grad school. |
Just like there are private schools for all types of kids, there are private schools for all types of parents. Choose your private school wisely
|
| Each school has a very different feel and culture. If you are convinced that a private school is right for your kids, you'll definitely be able to find one that feels right. |
| 22:11 Choose your private schools wisely? Sure, but they have to choose you first. Which is what lots of the crazy about private schools is about. |
I agree with this. I went looking for that sweet spot of an excellent DC school with a low quotient of insufferable parents. IME, there aren't many of these. |
| Plenty of obnoxious and judgmental parents at our local public school events and meetings. Go with what's best for your child and family! |
| Plenty of really annoying hag and geezer parents, but we sucked it up to give DD the best education we could afford. |

Don't put much stock in an anonymous forum - people can post and re-post making it seem like there are multiple people responding when it's really only one person.
I would rely more on your impressions when you visit a school - speaking with other families, students, faculty. Base your opinions on that, not on some anonymous poster with sour grapes. |
