Hi, I'm looking for an African-American pediatrician in the Dupont Circle - Downtown area. Any recommendations?
And, before I get flamed, I'm a white adoptive parent looking to give my African-American hopefully soon-to-be son as many great role models as I can. Thanks! |
| There is one in Foggy bottom. M street I think, near Trader Joe's. But it is not where I would be looking for AA role models, the AA receptionists kill me. |
| I like Michelle Barnes-Marshall in the West End, but she's actually Afro-Caribbean, I think, not African-American (I've never asked her exactly where she is from, but she has an accent). |
| Dr. Michelle Lang at Washington Pediatric Associates (19th and L) is AA and HIGHLY respected in her field. We love her. |
|
My son is also a patient with Washington Pediatric. We see Nurse Hunter (who is AA), and have done so since my kid was born, and I love her, she's been amazing. They work hard to be a practice that is welcoming of multicultural families (check out their website--they have, or at least had, some info to that effect, although I cant' find it quickly).

| We are not AA but have gone to Dr. Nicole Lang and her colleagues since my 4 yo was born. There is one non AA doctor, Dr. Sage, who is lovely. We have been very happy with the care there. |
| Another vote for Michelle Barnes Marshall. The receptionists are always friendly to me, never rude or difficult imo. But beyond that, Dr. Barnes Marshall has been the most attentive and kind doctor - patient, responsive and informative. FWIW, we started out at Washington Ped but not with Lang with #1 and just weren't happy there...but there are some perks, like the size of the practice being larger. |
If you want a fabulous dentist, I highly recommend Tawanda Jackson on Capitol Hill at Eastern Market. She's so great with my kids. And the parents see her as well.
We live in Columbia Heights and don't mind the drive over to the Hill. |
| Love Dr. Barnes. She is fabulous. |
Not the OP, but thanks! This is right on time (and convenient). |
| Definitely Washington Pediatrics, there are at least two (that I have seen) AA doctors there. |
| Another vote for Dr Barnes. She is Jamaican, FYI. And the most caring and patient doctor I have been around. Her office staff and nurses are great to us as well. |
| Another for Dr. Barnes Marshall. She covers for my sons' pediatrician, Dr. Wirt, and used to see patients with him. She's helped both boys through bouts of croup when Wirt was away or she was on call. Wonderful, warm lady. |
| I highly recommend my kid's pediatrician, Dennis Wirt. He is in the same building as Tawanna Jackson (650 Pennsylvania Ave SE). Not Dupont, but it's only 1 block from the Eastern Market metro. I like him a lot. He is very calm and experienced. Nice ladies in his office too. |

Another vote for Dr. Lang at Washington Pediatric Associates on 19th and M.
Everyone there is great. |
