| This is so dumb, but I realized I have no idea how the process of enrolling a child works. I finally found the website with enrollment forms, etc., but I don't see any deadline. Is there an open enrollment period of some kind? |

They like for people to enroll as early as possible so they can get an idea of how many classes they will need. However, we always get an influx in August. Abot now many elementary schools start having their K information nights. Ours is usually the week before the school's fun fair so that the rising Ks can come to the school on a fun day and look around. (That and the PTA gets the more money from ticket sales)
Call the school to see when the orientation night is. |
| Most schools have a K orientation for parents and students in early May. You will need to prove residency and we used the deed to our house to do so. I know that they take other docs as well. You also need the School Health Entrance Form which has to be signed by your child's doctor. |
| Thank you so much! |

Yes - call the school and ask for the registrar.
She or he will get your address to put you on the mailing list for the orientation nite where you will get your packet of forms and other info, in April or so. Although I have heard in some school districts with more FARMS kids they get the ball rolling much earlier. |
| I just enrolled my son last Friday. Call the school's registrar, they are very helpful! I was also confused by the process. |
| It is open enrollment. You could enroll now all they way until school actually starts(if you are moving and don't have proof of residence until then) But schools like to know as early as possible if possible. So even if you don't have all of your paper work in order call your schools registrar and let them know your child will be attending for the 2013-2014 school year. It helps the school to get in accurate numbers if you let them know earlier. They need to plan for how many teachers they need. Also ask when the K orientation is. You bring your child to it and it is fun for them to be in the environment. They usually start as early as March so get your schools date. |
This is interesting. It hasn't been my experience. Generally the schools with the lowest "FARM"s children are more stable and don't move around so much, so the early enrollment gives them a decent picture of what will be the total enrollment (not always of course). The schools with more at risk children tend to have the higher mobility rates (not counting schools where military dominates) so an early count would not tell them as much information. |
