Snow day

Remember that time the call was changed around 5am - changed mind, closed school? I wonder if will happen tomorrow, as the expectation was that overnight the roads would improve.

Yup! If I’m going to be treated like a babysitter than babysitter I will be.

I am happy to babysit my own kids while working a job with deadlines/deliverables in order to not have to deal with driving them back and forth to diff schools on icy hilly roads and dealing with extra HW BS on a weekend.
Exactly!! 2 hour delay makes lives harder for all working parents, teachers, and kids. This was an idiotic move by Reid and the surrounding counties as well

+100 Reid caved to the pressure of the screaming parents who need childcare.

+200, except for most of them, it’s “want,” not need.

You are so right.

+1000. I work and don't need extra last minute logistic challenges on a Friday.

My teacher friend just told me that any teacher that calls out tomorrow - whether for their own safety or their kids’ - has to take a full day of PTO instead of just 5 hours.

Still no plows around. I doubt they will ever come

Lets open the school! … for just the sake of open the school…

5 hours school in a week.

Pathetic. Horrible call made by dumbass Reid.

I’m going in, but I also have 500+ hours of PTO, as do many of my co-workers.

My child is taking 5 APs and cannot miss anymore days. While I understand that elementary schoolers are not affected by the closure of schools, older kids who are committed to their future need to go back.

Yup. To keep us from doing it. Haha

Teachers aren’t happy about this call.

I’m just surprised. A lot of stress and worry for a short amount of time.

Good for you? Not the case for early career teachers, or teachers that have needed to take PTO for extenuating circumstances.

Your kid's teacher won't be teaching new content. Too many students will be out. I'm a teacher and I plan on just making it a day to let them get caught up on work.

Please explain to me the exact benefit of tomorrow's reduced school day to parents and children. So far nobody said anything meaningful other than vague "it's time to go back". What do you expect will happen to benefit you so much? On the other hand, many already explained to you the challenges they have to face tomorrow to get their kids to school with having to make last minute changes to work schedules (Many won't be able to) and/or deal with alternative school bus stops because their streets have not been plowed or even salted and have turned to ice. Many areas are closed to school buses and also don't have sidewalks.
This should absolutely be an optional day with not extra HW or catch up expectation.

NP. My child’s history teacher is hard core - there will definitely be new content. I’m pissed.

Thank you, I hope all other teachers will do the same. I have no way of getting my kids to school tomorrow.

I don’t understand at all. I honestly don’t even think Reid wants to go back. It was a cowardly decision made so as to not stand apart from LCPS/PWCS. We are our own county with our own considerations
