Vday Cooking

What are you cooking for Valentine's Day? I made caramel last night and put it in the freezer in preparation for Smitten Kitchen's recent salted caramel brownie recipe: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2013/02/salted-caramel-brownies/

For the main course, I'm making Chicken Paprikash from Simply Recipes: http://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/chicken_paprikash/ Made this a couple months ago and wanted to drink every last drop of the sauce. Plus it's red so it's festive, right? 7 months pregnant otherwise I'd make a juicy pink steak, or skip the cooking and buy cheese/charcuterie plus champagne.

Also very pregnant and I have no clue what to make! Sigh, I'm lame. At least I grabbed a bottle of sparkling cider and bought cards for the husband.

I'm thinking of doing red velvet cupcakes but not sure about the actual meal yet.

BLT quiche, salad and double chocolate cookies.

Heart shaped meat loafs, red potatoes, peas. Peas go great with potatoes & meat loaf, too bad they are green.

Red wine. No dessert, because everyone is getting a chocolate heart.

Attempting braised short ribs for the first time. Then again, I'm on maternity leave, so if they don't taste good, we'll do takeout.

Steaks, potatoes (mashed or baked depending on household's final vote), some obligatory green thing. Wine for the grownups, sparkling cider for the kids, chocolate pudding for dessert.

I also made homemade caramel! But mine is for salted caramel chocolate cupcakes with a side of chocolate dipped bacon . Dinner.is bacon wrapped rosemary garlic filet mignon, asaragus, and rosemary roasted red potatoes. I love valentines day just because I get to cook over indulgent foods.

Just finished our v day dinner, pepper crusted strip steak with a bleu cheese sauce, roasted Brussels sprouts with apples, onions and bacon and crusty bread. No red wine for me sadly, also pregnant.

All of you are making me feel like a slacker. We went to Ledos.

Cooking? What do you mean?! We had valentine's day candy for dinner! The ones that were still hungry then had nuggets and frozen peas.

When DH came home around 9, he had some reheated pizza & leftover heart shaped donuts.

Valentines day = candy day at our house. we do it a few times a year and they love it......let's be honest, I do too!
