MCPS is has not done that in decades and not going to do that. If you are thinking why MCPS is not drawing wacky boundaries to have kid travel long distances to allow rich kids and poor kids mix then you have wrong idea of what segregation means. That's not segregation. That's people buying housess whereever they can afford. Expensive areas allow only rich to buy houses and it;s not due to MCPS or anyone promoting segregation. It's simple economics. Doing weird things based on pre conceived ideas results in some one like Trump getting elected. Stop seeing thigns which does not exist. County had great mix of population of all kinds. No is promoting segregation. MCPS should focus on provding best education to all kids in all schools. If situation allows then create 2-3 schools like BCC/WJ/RM with good mix. As far as extremes like Far east of Far west is concerned, it's illogical to try to bus kids long distrance because some SJW think that this sitaution is due to some one promoting segregation. |
You don’t understand why the economic outlook and conditions of an area would impact decision making of a government body? Ok. |
They asked for it. The budget is not truly fully funded as there is so much waste and programs they cut that need reinstated. |
You all are rich. If you take a 100K hit to your house, you will be ok. Or, did you make a bad financial decision on your house that you really cannot afford? |
Who? All of us? ok. I'm glad that our elected officials are presumably not as disdainful and unempathetic of their constitutents as yourself. |
You don't think you are rich if you are buying an 800-2 million dollar house? No, I'm not empathetic about this. We live within our means. You took a gamble that may not pay off. That's on you. The W schools demanded a new school and got it. They are the cause of this disruption for all of us. |
You are welcome to live however you want, and to cast aspersions anonymously on other on the internet. Fortunately you aren't in a decision-making position regarding school boundaries. |
Numerous posters are demanding that MCPS draw boundaries that protect their property values. We know that community advocacy especially from well resourced people absolutely impacts MCPS decisions. If you are demanding that MCPS protect your property values by drawing boundaries in a particular way, then you are advocating for modern day redlining. If instead you are truly just advocating for avoiding long bus rides, then I agree with you, I would not want that for my child either and I think most parents don't want that. |
disagree as redlining is based on race. it's important to not dilute the history by just changing the meaning of words. |
Racial disparities in property values and appreciation rates have significant implications for the racial wealth gap. Homes in majority-Black neighborhoods are often valued lower than similar homes in majority-white neighborhoods, leading to a cumulative loss of wealth for Black communities. This disparity is partly attributed to appraisal bias, where homes in Black neighborhoods are more likely to be appraised below their actual value. |
I don't disagree with any of that, but it isn't redlining. |
Racist policies change over time but the impact is quite similar |
Most people thought they would have half of WJ go to Woodward, and then they would add an elementary school from the DCC to each of them. No one thought they would be bused across the county to the worst performing school in the county (speaking about Farmland under Option 3). Most also assumed WJ and Woodward would be similar demographically, FARMS rate, etc. |
Either are you so worrying about property values as the primary thing is silly. |
They probably will not as they’d need more busses and drivers. This is to distract from the mismanagement and other issues going on. |
