AAP Proposal for Thoreau MS - what happens to Luther Jackson MS?

What happens to the AAP Center at Luther Jackson MS if a new AAP Center is created at Thoreau MS?
Anonymous
They will find someone to go there.

Will they have enough kids remaining at Luther Jackson MS? It doesn't seem that way based on the numbers posted on the FCPS website.

They are projecting a larger center at Jackson than at Thoreau?

Not in 2 years. Plus the projections do not take the proposed CIP projections into account.

Same thing with Kilmer. Their AAP center will be cut way down. They should think all this through and decide on the middle schools next year.

Yes, they should update/correct the Dashboard numbers this spring as scheduled, and then use that as a planning tool for new middle school AAP centers to open in fall 2014.

My guess is that someone has thought it through and this is part of a move to have "Local Level IV" services at every middle and elementary school and no more true Centers.

They have not thought it through. Revised numbers for elementary school projections have been posted today on BoardDocs. These are different numbers than we saw in the community meetings in November, at the work session in December, in the School Board meeting in December, and at the work session in January.

More reason to wait on this.

Please go to the school board meeting tonight and voice your opinion to slow down or at least email the members of the board NOW. Just about every school has sent information on how you can respond to the amendments. Advocate= getting something done to benefit the greater population, if you don't so anything then don't come back and complain.

+1

It's better to email at this point. The only way someone could speak tonight is if one of the 10 scheduled speakers did not show up.

The problem the Cooper people have is that most Herndon and Thoreau parents want AAP centers at their schools next fall, which undercuts the arguments by the Cooper parents that FCPS could never be ready to open new MS centers this fall.

Vote YES to school-based programs and balancing enrollments at county schools!

But the numbers do not add up.

It appears that they do and that the proposals make a great deal of sense.
