Great, you can all clear out. I asked a family with three kids that can afford private about fleeing DCPS and they think, just like we do, that their children don't need to change schools to get a great education. I think DC even did better in DL than in person. They might offer DC to skip a grade. Can you imagine DC going to school with similar easy-going high achieving kids once the other ones clear off! And for PP, I don't know what countries have better private schools than public, but surely not the top 10 of 2018.
Adios you say? from Washington Post article
Some families leave the city, others the country. A parent of three, Teresa Garcia said she knows four immigrant families with children in public schools in her Northwest Washington neighborhood who returned to Mexico and El Salvador during the pandemic because they felt they had no job prospects and little support here.
There are immigrant families leaving. Unlike superkid who thrives in DL others are suffering. But you know it's bad when they decide El Salvador is better than DC. Eventually the numbers will probably show an exodus if the schools don't provide families with some decent services. We are fortunate that we could get our kid in a private preschool/daycare. So we're good for another year, hopefully we're back to normal when he's ready for Kindergarten.
Family on my block left to return to Guatemala. They were living in a slumlord apartment on my block and kids were attending Seaton. Dad decided after months of kids being cooped up, it was better for the kids back home. Felt really sad to see them go, but I can understand.
