What were you doing the moment you found out your child was accepted to an elite private school?

This thread is truly a thing of beauty, and always in time to shake off the winter blues. (Time to pack up the chalet and get the sailing equipment ready for the Caribbean jaunt.)

I was on my tip toes (on my second nanny's back, who was bent over while my first nanny gave me a boost up) looking out a particularly high window in my great room, waiting for the mail person to arrive. I saw them start walking towards our entry gate but realized that I needed to buzz them in to drop our mail! I kicked nanny #1 into gear who ran over to the security panel to let the mail person in - they were carrying four thick envelopes which means Larlo was accepted to every school we, I mean they, applied to. I needed to take the week to really give it some thought before we accepted but I was sure to post which schools we ended up declining here so as to give the peasants hope that their children may get a spot off of the waiting list. First choicing all four schools really paid off no matter what anyone tells you.

I was reading an article about how 5 years later, going to an “elite” school would likely be a net DISADVANTAGE in college admissions — especially for non URMs — and that id be pissing away $35k per year.

Darling, you will be pissing away at least $45k per year. Time to let the second gardener go.

A modern update for 2022! Very nice.

Anyway, opened the package (sent to our Chevy Chase address and popped into a box and overnighted with other mail along with Ava’s forgotten extra ski goggles) and honestly wasn’t at all surprised. Ava was napping and so left the goggles outside her bedroom door. Didn’t tell Ava until we were back home. She’s a reluctant student and any change in her schedule causes her great anxiety.

I quickly finished telling our strong able bodied muscular manservant to relay the message to stable boy that I think we should start using oil from endangered baby blue whales as polish for Tripp's tack and saddle. I logged into Ravenna and...

This is such a dumb thread. Clearly not a lot of humor among the lawyers, lobbyists and commercial real estate execs of DC.

Damn. Guess we're spending a lot of money after all.

I was oppressing the plebes who do the actual work at my firm while I work from home, take 3 hour lunches and weeks off at a time.

I will thrown my hat in the ring-

Kid, family, I - whoever- was rejected in Pk. We applied to several schools that year but only wanted this one school. Went to a public PK instead. Reapplied the following year to this one school for kinder. Chances were slim but kid got in.

Got the acceptance email during a work meeting. I kept checking my email alllll day long. Was freaking excited for my kid- virtual Pk sucked. Dcps was just sucking so bad at the time and we were looking for some kind of hope (please don’t mock me- last year was awful).

We didn’t do anything special to “celebrate” but the school sent a sweet welcoming package on Saturday.

I know this thread is mostly meant to mock but I get it. Waiting for any kind of result/response can be nerve wracking. Hang in there!

Well, I've been too busy trying to vote down any taxes that would get funneled to anyone who cannot afford to send Larla to a $50k/yr private, obviously...

It's very relentless work.
