I don’t know if this is meant as sarcastic but a boat without windows of open air is a submarine. So that’s what you need to ask for.

Somewhat sarcastic. You only need to find a sympathetic jury. You could argue that a small child could move one of the chairs to the open windows, climb over the railing and fall out. While that didn't happen in this case, there is still negligence on the part of RCI because the open windows present a clear danger. One that RCI must know exists but they chose to install cameras instead of securing the windows.

It's plainly obvious that railings are inadequate protection to travels.

You sound absolutely ridiculous. Parents have a duty to watch their kids. The window is above kid height. The cruise industry is never going to get rid of windows and balconies. Maybe they should have guests sign a “I will not be a f-in moron” waiver.

I am sure you sign that already. No one reads it though.

You should never leave the house and for the love of god I hope you don’t have children.

If the family wins anything from a lawsuit I will be disgusted. They and their lawyer are the scum of the earth.

The grandpa will not be found to be negligent.

The cruise ship will be found negligent for having unsecured windows.

Apparently .000001% of the population needs to be explicitly told "don't hold babies outside over open windows" and therefore because .000001% of people are idiots, everyone else must pay (companies, and other customers carrying those trickle down costs)?

Then why don't office building have open windows 18 stories up. Because it is unsafe. The ship created an unsafe situation.

Uh, because people are working and not leisurely on vacation. And don't need the elements getting getting in their offices or on their work.

High rise condos/apartments have fully functioning windows, and often have roof decks. Because most people don't hang babies over railings like idiots.

This grandfather should not have been charged. If the window was accessible without a ladder, any child could climb up and out.

Let's just make big floating bubbles!

The knee jerk reaction is to blame someone or a company so you can process the situation and feel better about 'you' not being to blame.
however, the grandfather was totally negligent here. That doesn't mean that he meant to kill the child, but he did not use safe/sound judgement.

This is no different than if he set her on a counter top next to a hot stove and she touched it. Should the kitchen designer be to blame because they put a counter next to a stove? How about the stove manufacturer. Surely they know that children can get burned by their product!!

Sometimes 'we' are to blame for the stupid and deadly stuff that happens. This is one of those times.

I see the idiots who actually believe the cruise ship is at fault have found this thread.

Oh not this again. Have you ever seen a cruise ship balcony room? If a kid or adult wants to kill themselves, it’s easily doable. Watch your kids.

And any child could crawl out of their home and lay in the street at any time—SUE ALL THE CITIES!!!

28.5 Million People Took a Cruise in 2018. The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has released the latest global cruise passenger statistics indicating that cruising continues at a paced growth around the world with an almost seven percent increase from 2017 to 2018, totaling 28.5 million

.... and you found 4 who fell out the window. Doesn’t meet the reasonable standard.

This is not how our criminal justice system works. Read a book if you must.

This guy was trying to be the "fun" Grandpa, the one who would do stuff with the little girl that no other adult would do.

I'm sure that sitting on a railing way up high with the ocean breeze in your face is really, really fun and it's the sort of thing that makes a kid LOVE and choose Grandpa because he is so fun.

I'll bet this is not the first time that Grandpa has done something like this. They walked onto that ship and hadn't even had a chance to unpack before this tragedy happened.
