Tuckahoe by the numbers - how can it stay a neighborhood school?

Wow, you have a lot of grudges going on there.

Yeah. If anyone is upset with Tuckahoe, it's the school they are trying to take all the PUs from: Nottingham. Those folks are mad that Tuckahoe wants to claim Nottingham bldg. as their walk zone.

He didn't "name names," her name is on the publicly-posted letter she and two other Tuckahoe PTA board members sent to the SB

Ok. I guess that post was deleted for some other reason.

During the Reed School process, did the School Board ever mention it thought there would be excess capacity in the area and it would consider addressing that by moving an option program to another neighborhood school in the area?

And word is getting out that the preferred option for Reed is now over budget. What happens if the School Board needs to builder a smaller school on that site for budget reasons? Oh, and it does that after it votes to make Tuckahoe an option school?

Could easily see that happening and then these N Arlington schools fighting each other will ALL be overcrowded.

Please stop trying to stir up drama with ignorant speculation. Six designs for the Reed school have been proposed, they all have different budgets but they all provide 725 seats. The SB is not going to build a smaller school on the Reed site, they may just have to choose a less-expensive design for those 725 seats.

Ignorant speculation of what? That APS can mess up a building process? That things might change?

Ignorant speculation that they're going to reduce the size of Reed even though there's no such proposal on the table, and that the SB will make a decision on choice school locations before they make a decision on the Reed design (which is scheduled to happen a couple of months before the choice school location determination). You have zero foundation for either assertion, you're just trying to get people stirred up and infighting for your own entertainment.

You are obviously from the area around Reed. Must have been nice to have all that support from Tuckahoe when YOU wanted a neighborhood school. And yes, many of those folks who will be left at Tuckahoe were vocal in supporting a neighborhoodschool in Westover. But now that folks have Tuckahoe on the chopping block, where is the support for Tuckahoe? Why didn’t that civic association letter also support Tuckahoe remaining a neighborhood school? I don’t know what is worse: All the Nottingham people throwing Tuckahoe under the bus or the people who think they are going to Reed looking the other way while it gets hit.

I'm not from the Reed area. I realize this may be a foreign concept for you, but some people are capable of independent critical thinking rather than making shit up to justify whatever they want the world to look like.

Right, the nameless posters on DC Urban Mom are a great poll for what is actually happening in real life. I would love to see a list of actual alive Tuckahoe parents offended. They certainly don't attend PTA meetings.

I like how you cut out the part where the self-identified Tuckahoe parent put his name to the statement that she's been working with "little to no support" from the Tuckahoe community.

Apparently you’re only allowed to have an opinion if you attend the PTA meetings.

It’s actually surprising that these other schools would want to cut Tuckahoe rather than going. They don’t have homework, never since I’ve been there have iPads gone home and now I have a 3rd grader and it’s still at school. When my kid was younger they had two recesses a day. They get monthly outdoor gardening lessons. Wasn’t there an AEM post about recess, seem to remember every neighboring school saying there kids were getting way under the time they were supposed to get. Yet even before any of these materials were out or this process was even designed there were Area parents I knew telling me their pta thinks Tuckahoe is going away. It all seems defensive to me. And to be honest APS when they redraw for Reed could make nice circles around all those schools and will have to disappoint some parents sure their unit is going to Reed as the suggested walk zone survey includes way more than 725. So until that happens and they tell us what’s happeneing with Reeds attendence now that it seems APS and the neighborhood associations there want to include all those kids between Washington Blvd and I-66 I’d say some of those units from Tuckahoe/Nottingham (and Hell they even have a Glebe one or two on their possible walk zone) probably aren’t going to be Reed units.

Dear defensive Tuckahoe parent,

The six civic associations wrote to the school board in favor of a style of design and keeping Reed a neighborhood school. At no point did they ever throw any other school under the bus. They did not recommend that Tuckahoe become a choice. Even though they know some schools are advocating for other nearby schools to be considered for choice schools, the Westover Civic Association group did not do that.

So Tuckahoe isn't a literal shithole like a prior post claims?

What school has advocated for making Tuckahoe choice? This is the first I’ve heard of it.

You haven't heard about it because it's not happening. A handful of Tuckahoe parents are just having fits over the idea that people are having a rational discussion of which school in the region would make sense as an option school *if* APS were to move an option school to the area due to the excess seats expected after Reed opens.

Seriously - they want to take the 100 walkers that live in the actual Nottingham PU and bus them to Tuckahoe?? Cannot even imagine how they are trying to justify that.
