That was such an insane, half-baked scheme. I was watching the news and the reporters were wide-eyed as they read their script on his "Twitter" signing. |
Not a chance. Not when the USAToday reported that there are possibly 3.6 million Dreamers in this country —not the 800k politicians are touting now. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/01/18/there-3-5-m-dreamers-and-most-may-face-nightmare/1042134001/ |

Do you really think most Americans think Dreamers are more important than soldiers and sick children?
Maybe, Dem Senators need to rethink this. |
Soldiers are essential. |
Soldiers aren’t affected. That’s a myth. The whole problem here is that Mexico isn’t paying for the wall. |

A tweet for every occasion
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/387322936350105600 My sense is that people are far angrier at the President than they are at Congress re the shutdown—an interesting turn! |
Meh, I beg to differ. The Graham-Durbin deal will be passed. It's a good start for immigration reform and DJT will take whatever wins he can get. The bipartisan bill would: -Allow DACA recipients and other Dreamers who are too old to qualify for DACA to eventually get a green card and apply for citizenship if they meet the length of time, educational, and criminal requirements -Ends chain migration for DACA recipients and other Dreamers; their parents could get a renewable long-term visa but would never qualify for a Green Card or citizenship -Diversity lottery eliminated and those 50,000 visas reallocated based on merit or other tangible criteria (no more luck involved) -A couple billion dollars (single digit) for increasing border security If Trump was wise, he would take this deal and then continue working to get more money down the road for his dumb wall. It would remove the DACA headache, which 85% of US citizens want to see resolved. |

Nice try, Mr. Speaker, but only the morons are buying what you are trying to sell. |
| I blame Mexico. If Trump kept his promise about making Mexico pay, we wouldn’t be here. |
|
I think the strong suit for Republicans is to say that Democrats are willing to hold to ransom the interests of 300 million Americans to legalize 800K DACA recipients who came to this country illegally and whose future is no in jeopardy for now, given that the federal courts have stayed any action with regard to them.
I also feel that this should be the pretext for changing the senate rules to eliminate the filibuster for legislation. |
So undo 230 years of rules because you can't compromise. It wasn't right when Harry Reid did it; it wasn't right when McConnell did it for Trump nominees and it isn't right now. Our country is forged on compromise. Suspending rules may not even get the 51 votes needed. Right now, there are barely 48. Do you suggest imposing a "40 rule" vote to get your way instead? |
Suddenly the GOP cares about sick children? Since when? |
| Sounds like Trump is caving. He invited Chuck to the White House to talk shutdown. Trump really wants to get down to Mar a Lago! |
