Vacation spots your friends talked up but you hated

South Beach -- absolutely HATED it. We rented a car and drove to Key West just to get the F outta there.

- San Francisco - friend told me I would love it and want to move there asap. uh-uh! Loved the areas an hour north of the city, but the city itself, nope!!
- Barbados - loved the crazy buses, hated not being able to zone out on the beach because vendors approach you. I don't care if vendors are around just don't come up to me every 2 minutes when I'm trying to relax
- Turks and Caicos - beautiful beaches, but while we were out and about I'm pretty sure we narrowly escaped being robbed

Key West. Chain stores + trashy/creepy, drunk old people = Tacky. Blech, never again.
Anonymous
Deep Creek Lake - boring as hell and racist locals. Only time we went home early.

Wow. I loved it there.

No. You liked the Ritz Carlton Resort.

One block away and everything was ugliness and blight.

Just got back from the Ritz on GC. Agree that the island is not terribly nice. The Ritz wasn’t so great either and it was full of gaudy Long Islanders.

So is the one in Puerto Rico. Even on the Club level, so many trashy people. It's awful.

Hahaha, more like commercial real estate millionaires. At least the ones that I know who post and talk about how much they love love love BHI do that, and don't come from money.

Wondering if the people who didn't like Nashville left Broadway.

The entirety of the Delaware shore is gross and where it is not gross, it is bland. Like a dial tone.

People around here like it because they don’t know any better.

Yes.

And not even a real lake.

The beaches are lame. The mountains are short and without good skiing.

It's not Kansas but the geography of the mid-Atlantic is pretty unexciting.

Anonymous wrote:Hilton Head, S.C. Hated having to get in the car and drive everytime you wanted to do/eat/drink anything. Also the long drive to get there was a pia. Never again.

+1

Or you could have biked like most people on the island....

NP, and another meh for HHI. We went there with little kids, who wereWe not going to stay together and bike safely to our various destinations. Many of which were in strip malls, which are not my favorite places.

I might have felt differently if I loved golf and tennis. But for me there was no offset to the lack of walkability.

I could see that. We love Hilton Head and usually drive to the stores or to get dinner but usually we just like to cook on the grill and spend time on the beach and in our villa playing board games. There are some areas of Hilton Head that are better for walking than others though, in case you ever want to give it another shot. Sea Pines & Shelter Cove come to mind. There are nice views and restaurants in both those areas.

Take a day trip on the ferry to Daufuskie Island. We love going there when we're in Hilton Head.

Key West

Can you tell me what underwhelmed you about San Diego? So many friends have recommended I visit there, but when I look at pictures and videos, I just don't see what all the hype is about. Nice looking place but seems boring as hell for a vacation.

Do you like beer, great food, surfing, the ocean, one of the top 3 horse tracks in the US, great golf, the mountains, the beach, no bugs, I could go on but SD has it all. I'm of course speaking of the SD area including Coronado, La Jolla, Del Mar, Escondido, etc. Oh yeah, and the baseball stadium is pretty cool.

The city of San Diego is completely aesthetically unattractive as a city, but for the reasons you state (and others), totally worth visiting. Especially the beer and food and beaches.

How is the beer in San Diego different than anywhere else?
