A lot of Q3/Q4 GA players from City and Albion will tryout for Surf ECNL next year for sure.

Surf is in trouble. They're notorious for giving their teams cakewalks to finals at Surf Cup. This time they got caught. Socal Reds GA who Surf lost to practice at great park with Blues and Pateadores. Socal GA is developing and identifying players. Reguarding City SC they pretty much hate Surf + wont let their players anywhere near them. Everyone knows Surf isnt developing players they just recruit. This model is becoming less and less effective. The bigger issue is Surf coaches have been obnoxious for a while. Players dont tryout there anymore because they make it clear that recruiting is their preference. You could be an amazing player and they wouldn't take you if you didnt come from a short list of teams. If this attitude doesnt change I'd expect to see more of these type of losses.

So is Richmond United at Jeff Cup. 🤣

It’s a “thing.”

Folks it’s soccer. Sometimes teams lose, even when they’re really really good. And that’s not a knock on the GA team, or GA. Great job by them, they’re also very good.

This is why the Rankings App worship is absurd. It sucks, but it makes you feel informed or confirmed. You do you.

But at the end of the day, it’s competitive soccer.

Those same two teams played a month prior and surf won 6-0. Something off. Injury, attendance, something.

They are young teenage kids who just came back from playing a string of intense games leading up to and concluding with the National Championship. I can understand why immediately turning around and playing in a tournament, whether its in their backyard or not, may not lead to the desired results. Geez. I'm happy that for the last few weeks after National Playoffs my DD has been able to take a few weeks away from soccer - still staying active - and not having to worry about immediately turning around and playing more games.

Yeah, that’s not it. 12/13 years olds could play a game every other day and be fine. They had two weeks off. I would bet a decent sum it is not apples to apples. And 8 goal swing at this level is beyond a statistical anomaly.

Yeah. I am not making excuses for Surf and yeah, they might be fine physically to keep running games over and over, but it takes a toll regardless of if you have two weeks off or not. Maybe there is a thought that every kid is an automaton and is capable of top level play each and every time, but whatever. I have no skin in a results of a 2011 SD Surf game, so I am bowing out.

I agree, San Diego Surf just lost. Stop making excuses. If anything this shows that GA teams are getting better. Usually Surf likes to cakewalk their teams to finals playing teams that arent very good. Seems like they got caught with their hand in cookie jar this time

The writing was on the wall for this. It is the next logical step in trying to keep MLSN at bay. Particularly if MLSN stays BY. Each league will need/want to create their own silo from u8 through u19.

I think it will take longer for MLSN to spin up their own alternative. They don’t seem to have the overhead needed.

Pre-ECNL program lower than U9 is another money grab. We already have it here in our area for U11-U12 and it is a hot mess. The lower level clubs who are getting throttled in it hate it so much. It makes no sense.

MLSN does not be benefit from a silo age cutoff, ECNL boys does.

Sure, crazy parents love biobanding, so their mediocre players can play down to beat kids one year younger.

Slightly different because San Diego Surf is generally top in the nation ranking and league.

The issue with the ranking app if you want to call it an issue. Is that its only tells you an expectation of a result based on the last 20 results. If the team just got a new coach or the club shuffled the team you wont see the result of the changes until after they've played several games.

GA teams are coming up in ranking it just takes a while for it to show up in the app. Developing players isnt magic. You work hard performing certain drills over and over again. Eventually results will occur.

Rankings app is garbage.

No its actually really good. You just dont like it because you don't understand math. You think it's witchcraft coming from your magic phone box

Orrrrrrr I understand math, and specifically the statistics they are bolting together, and sports analytics, and I know it’s garbage aimed at dumb parents…there is that alternative too.

No, you just dont understand math.

Or you dont like that clubs not in the league your kid plays in has a higher ranking than you.

You’ve got no idea. 🤭

Like PP said, “sometimes teams lose.”

This is a perfect example of why Americans are football idiots.

We get upset when a goal isn’t scored after an attack. Everywhere else gets excited that the attack was dangerous and opportunistic.

Seems like it's more about partnering with smaller clubs and replacing USYS as the league for those clubs' top teams. Maybe that improves their development pipeline.

Hijacked is a strong word. The shift to GA and MLSN was on topic - the age cutoffs.
