I don’t think it’s as hopeless as you think. The hits are adding up. People I know who live outside of DC and voted for Trump, did not vote for this. They’re losing jobs and worrying about how to find work. The hat trick the project 2025 people want to perform was not on the ballot, and most people would never vote for it. The 18% that are falling for it, are untouchable koolaid drinkers, but the rest aren’t.

what did they vote for then? racism and xenophobia?

No, they thought he would be better for the red state economies. That’s not working out at all.

I don’t get this. He’s doing exactly what he said he’d do.

No he’s not. Project 2025 was not on the ballot. He disavowed it. Those of us inside the beltway knew he was FOS but his voters didn’t believe he was going to do this. They figured he’d deport some people and lower their taxes, ease some regulation. Not decimate the world economy, create global instability, and try to be a dictator.

It was totally obvious what would happen if he was elected. Now we are all porked bc people are idiots.

Obvious to you and me yeah. I think calling his voters idiots, isn’t really hitting the mark. Sometimes people in DC really forget how little regular people have to think about the things we do.

Well perhaps they should put some real thought into who should be our president or otherwise abstain from voting.

Just not thinking about it and then showing up at the polls for the first time in four years because a very obvious con man rapist tells you he’ll magically make egg prices go down and get rid of brown people is the height of selfishness and stupidity.

They should either educate themselves or let the intelligent people handle the politics. Now we have a reality show of a government. Literally. We’ve got a Real World star as a cabinet pick. Wtf.

MAGA are intellectually lazy and assumed there’d be smart adults to keep Trump from going off the rails so they could continue to be amused by his crazy antics and bashing the libs. They didn’t treat our democracy and due process as something to value and protect. At this point I view them as traitors to America.

Canadian here. What we are bewildered by is how anyone could think that someone with a history of lying over and over and over and over and over again, of throwing people under the bus to save his skin, of being petty, spiteful, and cruel; someone who has never displayed an ounce of compassion, empathy, or kindness — how on earth could you think he would make a good leader?

This country has a mass amount of apathy for politics. For example, there is all of the unethical stock trading that happens in congress on both sides of the aisle. We whine and complain about it but guess what? These congressmen come back election after election after election. Clearly it’s not a big enough issue for us if we keep sending them back. I mean think about the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on campaigns basically begging us to show up one day a year to fill out a ballot. We simply don’t care enough.

I don’t think hand waving away what these people failed to recognize is going to help us now. God speed to all of us.

I’m not hand waiving it away. They are about to get hit hard, and we need to come together now. Calling them idiots isn’t going to help us now either.

They are idiots. Why do we need to treat them with kid gloves?

He won with only 49% of the votes, and factoring in non voters, it was more like 26%. That said, most of us are right there with you and owuld be perfectly happy with the eastern and western US being two additional provinces of Canada.

A lot of us agree with you, but another big chunk of Americans couldn’t even bother to vote.

I am sorry we suck so much as neighbors. I love your country.

+1 I have met a good amount of people that vote but are simultaneously apathetic and don’t care all that much. A lot of people heard low groceries and no tax on overtime didn’t hear much else.

It wasn’t obvious to me that the GOP in Congress would give away their power so tamely. Sure I expected them to run away from the microphones and say they hadn’t read Trump’s most recent inanity. I expected them to be singularly focused on their tax cuts for billionaires. I did not expect them to sit by while the president ignored their appropriations or to shrug their shoulders as he destroys the U.S. economy.

I am not sure why that wasn't obvious...the GOP has been circling the toilet bowl ever since Newt Gingrich came on the scene, and it got worse with the tea party and the "freedom" caucus. So here we are.

But the tea party and freedom caucus were all about bringing down the deficit. That’s not what the “blueprint” they passed for the budget does. It’s all so inconsistent and nonsensical.

No they weren’t. You’re still falling for it.

There is a sizable number of Americans who don't understand it either. He's a terrible, terrible, terrible person. And an incompetent POTUS. It makes no sense whatsoever to cast a vote for him. None. Zero. Zip. It's like we are all in the Upside Down.

American here. Same. Lots of us have said we wouldn’t hire him to mow our lawn. I have no idea why someone would vote for him to lead even a dogsled.

Yes. They were afraid the US wouldn't remain white enough. Pretty much just this.

It'd be too strong to say I was rooting for Trump or that I thought he'd to a good job, but I thought there was a *chance* he'd do a good job, and, for the sake of the country, I was really hoping he would. I didn't vote for him, but I also never seriously considered voting for Harris or Biden. I thought Trump's first term was at moments scary but overall pretty good.

With the wind-up, let me say: geez Louise this is going shittily.

He may or may not have lied about many things. The tariffs however, he was not lying about.

Contrast that with Democrats who you know are politicians after all and lied about many things. Take for example recycling. As it turns out, you can't recycle plastic. However, they did nothing when it came to their progressive economic agenda and class disparities. So, there is the basic reasoning. Trump has done some things (big things) that he said he was going to do that we liked.
