What is your federal agency telling you re: RTO? (No other rants/comments!)

SEC manager here. Mainly just delighted for my staff attorneys that they are likely ok until '26; we very likely would have lost at least two high-performers in my branch more or less immediately if this went the other way.

SEC manager, won’t we be okay until 2027? When in 2026 would we have to go back?

does your BU have an agreement for telework?

You serious?

Yes. Didn’t sound like it just my division. Even OPM is giving their staff until March. Just unreal.

What division are you?

BDM

So as of end of day Friday there’s no info and then people fire up their computers Monday and are told “get to your office now”? I’m a big fan of RTO but this scenario sounds crazy.

Yeah it sounds made up.

Labor got word at like 5 pm that we are RTO on Feb 9th. But we’ve been back for like a year with 3 telework days a pay period. Guess those are gone?

I am a staff attorney and I feel really bad for you guys. I hope they allow you guys some flexibility in the future. We need good managers and it is hard enough to fill the branch chief jobs in my division this will make it even worse. Also, there's no business need to not give you guys any flexibility.

Agreed. I think we are going to lose alot of talented people and not many will want those jobs. Probably the whole point of this anyways.

Choosing not to offer one weekly telework day is just dumb. Can’t see the case for gov over the private sector anymore—unless your goal is just to collect a paycheck while doing ten hours of actual work each week. This is going to drive out the high performers.

Correct. Regular telework is no longer. At most its situational moving forward.

Labor isn’t a group or term used at the Fed. Nice try.

Pretty sure they meant DOL.

Non-bargaining back April 28. Bargain units no date set

how do i get myself a bargaining unit?

Once the hiring freeze is lifted, I’m going to apply for a BU job. I need a break from being a supervisor. I’m sure those jobs will be very competitive but I’ll just keep applying until something comes through.

Agreed - it’s all in flux, nothing is certain, and only the true CBA experts are worth listening to about the legal posture and likely outcomes/timing here.
