+1! Notre Dame moves beyond 1964! |
If you are claiming that the Rhodes foundation discriminated against Catholics I would like to see proof. The experts at Time Magazine in 1956 say you are wrong. https://time.com/archive/6610699/education-how-to-be-a-rhodes-scholar/. Rhodes' religious preferences are unknown but all powerful British men in the 1860s were Protestant due to something called the Reformation. What does that mean? Nothing. Cull the literature on him. There is nothing about religion being important to him. We do know he was gay. Does that mean his foundation favored gay applicants? Of course not. He was a Mason. Does that mean scholarships went to Masons? Of course not. As the Time Magazine piece points out, the early Rhodes Scgokars came from America's earliest, most established and most elite schools, all of which were founded on some type of protestant religion to train clergy. Nothing more, nothing less. |
Ok, random anonymous poster who has a major case of sour grapes. DP |
UVA is ranked lower than ND, but with in-state tuition, it seems like an excellent ROI. If money is no objection, I am sure ND would be a fabulous experience, but for most of us middle class (bubble families), UVA at $35K (aprox) may still be hard to afford. In our case, we told our kid what we could afford, and she knew that ND was outside of our budget. |
18 vs. 24...mind blowing difference. This is exactly why rankings are useless. |
VT is not a mid level state school. And 95% of schools are non-competitive. They don't want anyone to get into competitive schools without being competitive. |
Seriously. These are all great schools. The difference between a few spots is probably a couple points. |
The question should be “Can that college get you to where you want to go?” Any school in the top 50 can get you just about anywhere. Top 200 can get you to the vast majority places. Any accredited school can get you lots & lots of places. This fetish for top 25 is people’s insecurities going out of control. |
UVA is and has always been a public ivy! ![]() |
2 points precisely. UVA gets an 86/100 and ND and 88/100. They could easily flip next year. |
only read the last couple of pages in this thread. Wow, US News has really declined. Seems like it ranked only two schools (ND & UVA) this year. |
Completely monopolized the thread. |
Why don't you just read the claim and don't add your words. The facts stand. |
Bummer that 51 can only get you some places and 50 just about anywhere. |
Monopolized the thread? 21 pages of drivel, this thread was dead before it started. |
