People still masking every day at work

Fascinating. "Unless you know."

You do realize that people who wear masks are not necessarily going to tell you their business. Why would I announce any health challenges or diagnoses to colleagues? Do you just give folks in a supermarket the side-eye and think, "That one looks old, skinny and sick. Must be cancer."

Should I assume they are unvaxxed? Just super paranoid or something??

I find this so weird.

They have autoimmune or cancer, or more likely they LIVE with someone who is VERY high risk with similar conditions.

This. And they are nice and considerate people.

Autoimmune diseases often do not significantly affect your ability to fight infections.

If they have weak immune system, they need to try to minimize risk of infections in every way possible.

The pandemic has convinced a large number of people that they're suddenly and significantly immunocompromised. And some are, but many aren't. If you're not on corticosteroids, biologics, chemo, or radiation therapy, you're probably not significantly immunocompromised.

You have no basis for this statement other than the fact that you are....a big jerk. Who do you think you are? Are the spirit reader? A DCUM psychic.

go away.

You haven't noticed a significant increase in the number of people claiming to be immunocompromised? Where were all these people during previous flu seasons?

You are insane. When h1n1 was bad my doctor had me mask. You questioning people's medical issues is bat chit.

Awfully sensitive. I take it you're one of the immunocompromised individuals that isn't actually taking any immunosuppressants. Let me guess: you have an "autoimmune disease."

dp - why did you put that in quotes?

Because half the people on Dcum claiming to have an autoimmune disease haven't actually been diagnosed with one by a legitimate doctor. And some that have a diagnosis only got it by doctor shopping until someone told them what they wanted to hear.

If you are the same person posting this "theory" again and again, I will repeat:

You have no basis for this statement other than the fact that you are....a big jerk. You have no idea what anyone posting does or does not have.

I'm not one of the maskers, BTW, but my parents do it, because my dad has cancer. So honestly, f u.

Luckily it has toned down now that the pandemic is effectively over, but you haven't been paying attention if you haven't observed a significant increase in the number of claims of immunocompromise and autoimmune diseases.

It's your imagination. Seek help.

The immunosuppressants you take to treat the autoimmune diseases, on the other hand, do.

The only angry person angry here is you. Everyone else just thinks you and the other car-maskers are nuts.

If someone is in a car with someone sick, has health issues or is an uber/lyft driver, it makes sense. For allergies, it makes sense... why do you care?

And if they're just driving around with their imaginary friend?

Then it still doesnt concern you.

Right. But it's still weird.

You should really talk to your therapist about your obsession with masking and lack of empathy.

There's a ton of empathy on this thread. Many feel very sorry for the maskers and concerned of their apparent untreated mental illnesses.

The anti-maskers on this thread are projecting big time!

What kind of sad sack are you that you post stuff like this anonymously? You shouldn't be talking about untreated mental illnesses to anybody until you get your own house in order.

You don't think it is important to treat mental illness?

Of course I do. Let's start with yours and the other bizarrely anti-mask people on this thread. Unlike the people who are masking for their own health reasons and not bothering you at all, you are taking out your anxiety on strangers on the internet.

No.

Do you mean in your day-to-day or here on DCUM?

I think you are noticing more because you are paying attention to it. I do think people talk about it more, because of how the pandemic changed discussions about health. Maybe they kept it to themselves more.

Why weren't these people similarly concerned during flu seasons?

What makes you think it's just covid? I'm more concerned about colds and flu. Time for you to get mental health treatment for your anxiety with masks and your lack of empathy. Perhaps its a personality disorder?

Cool. But you know we had cold, flu, and masks in 2019, right?

Cool, so why do you care if others make choices different from you? You know it's been 5 years now and some have developed health issues since then? Oh wait, that goes back to empathy and you have none.

Still waiting for your diagnosis or medical test results.

You are deeply weird if you think strangers on the internet owe you personal health information. Seek help. Or maybe just start by going for a walk? Oh wait... don't...there might be someone out there wearing a....a....a mask! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh.

But masking alone in her car doesn't make sense. I almost don't believe that detail.

DP-I see folks driving around in their cars with masks on —recently.

That yellow stuff on your car is pollen, genius.

Most people with autoimmune diseases don't take immunosuppressants.

What do you take?

Saying wearing a mask is "weird and sad" is insulting. And inaccurate. It is unfortunate that you don't realize that. PPs have given completely rational reasons for wearing masks.

Entreating someone with a terrible fear of masks to seek help for their anxiety isn't attacking them. They are irrationally angry about something that doesn't harm them. They are insulting people with medical conditions. This is concerning.

I don't know why you think anyone is angry here except for you. You're obviously upset that people are concerned about your mental wellness.

There are some who wear masks and I don’t think anything of it. It’s nice that now we can wear masks or expect others to when we have any kind of respiratory illness and there are now fewer bugs going around the office. I don’t care why you’re doing it - you do you.

There is a fellow in my office building who makes me sad, however. I watched him today and it’s like other days. He is fully masked. He’s in the kitchenette and he washes his hands, twice, and dries them. He then goes over to the hand sanitizer pump (no touch) and gets about three pumps and scrubs his hands. Then he goes back to the paper towel machine (no touch) to get a paper towel so he can press the elevator button. I feel nothing but sadness and compassion because you can’t be happy if you are that afraid.
