Emerson College
SUNY Purchase College
Fordham University
Muhlenberg College
Drew University
VCU (in-state for us but finances not a factor)
Elon University
Belmont University

Child interested in communications and media studies, possible voice/music minor, languages, creative or performing arts. Decided not to pursue BFA (has musical theater background) and more interested in liberal arts with opportunities for music and performing. Prefers city environment but found other campuses appealing. Pretty artsy, independent thinker. Has math learning disability but otherwise strong academic profile (especially language arts).

Emerson seems like it should be the obvious one, but for some reason I read your post and got strong Muhlenberg vibes.

DP. Agree. I'd lean Emerson though.

JMU
CNU honors
GMU honors
Gettysburg
Mount St. Mary’s honors
High Point honors
Stetson honors
W&M waitlist/January start

If she really likes W&M, I’d go the January start. Otherwise, maybe Gettysburg.

I might do wm spring, then JMU, then Gettysburg.

Don't do JMU for poli sci - the department is a joke

I am not this poster, and don’t have a good suggestion, but bumping because it is an interesting choice. I think it would come down to gut — which campus spoke more to your child? My kid considered both but ended up not applying to UofR just to limit apps.

URochester - scholarship $14K annually

UVA
W&M

intended major Biology or Chemistry
Prefers mid size, not into sports or greek

Rochester and W&M seem to fit the type of school environment your child seeks. Great options though! W&M a fantastic in-state option for science majors.

Are you serious? CMU with the $37k grant.

CMU unless the 37K grant is very hard to get for the next 3 years.
WM next.

Full pay at all

Cambridge depends on college and how keen kid is on the subject. Does kid love the college they were accepted to? Is kid focused on makor subject or more Renaissance? I prefer US system for undergrad as it allows more breadth. Cambridge for 2nd BA or grad. But, it's lovely and a wonderful experience.

Princeton over Cornell

If she really likes W and M, then I think she’ll also like Gettysburg. I think it’s worth it to go there and start in the fall.

Does your kid have any preference at all about what kind of college they go to?
What about differences in cost?

My top 3 would probably be UCSB, Wisconsin, Pitt

Gettysburg isn't nearly as good a school as WM - I'd take the delayed start at WM

CMU is a grind. I'd pick WM or Rochester (if they can deal with the long winter)

In:
UIUC
UPitt-Honors College with merits
VT ROTC (in state)
UMass with merits
Oberlin- honors college with merits

Waitlist:
Case Western with merits
BC
Smith
CMU

Also have guaranteed transfer at BU

Money is not a deciding factor. Kid wants to do medical research as a career goal.

How much merit does Oberlin give?

Um, no it's not. I have had one Poli Sci major and one IR major graduate from JMU. Both were employed right out of college in their fields and have been moving up steadily. Highly recommend JMU.

Beloit at 30-ish coa.

I'd visit Kenyon, St Olaf and Wooster and decide

Male, sporty but not a recruited athlete, social but prefers a small group of friends to a raging party, wants to study econ or poli sci followed by law or business school. Likes moderate weather and moderate politics. Money not the be-all-end-all, but the above list is in order of most to least expensive after merit and FA.
