How many know how to get anything done? Laura Stewsrt is someone who does. The rest of these folks can blow smoke as much as they want, but will be like catnip for the long-term MCPS staff. And, as one former board member said, "you need 5 votes [to get anything done]." That was Jeanette Dixon, who tried, but wasn't able to get the 5 votes.

Rebecca Smondrowski has tried. I'm a supporter. Lynn has also pushed back on the entrenched MCPS staff. Let's get some people in there who know where and how to push, and know how to get things done. Lynn, Laura and Rebecca will all have my votes, no matter what the Apple Ballot says in the end.

I expect to vote for Lynn and Laura, but I would consider serious alternative candidates to Rebecca, if any are running.

Aren't Lynn and Laura running for the same seat? So it'd be either or.

It looks like Lynne Harris is running at large and Laura Stewart is running for District 4.

Here’s the Maryland Board of Elections page listing candidates.

It’s simple. If you like the way things are going for MCPS and want to keep the status quo, vote for Lynn Harris and Laura Stewart.

Laura Stewart is running against Shebra Evans, the incumbent in District 4.

Stewart a former BOE? So an incumbent. Geez, aren't there other people willing to run?

No, Evans is the incumbent. -DP

How is Laura Stewart more status quo than Shebra Evans, who is the incumbent? She is the ultimate status quo, do nothing board member.

Shebra Evans hasn’t filed to run again so right now she’s not on the ballot. Both Evans and Stewart are insiders, so that factor is a wash. Given a choice between the two, I would take Evans’ four-year degree over Stewart’s AA.

She told reporters she's running.

Unless she's been utilizing some minor in politics, I'm not sure we're getting much from Evans' Tennessee State education. I'd expect much better oversight with a bachelor's in Econ and Finance.

I've been in a MCCPTA meetings with Laura Stewart. She's smart and she's a persistent researcher who knows how to get answers. She knows more about the system's CIP budget than most of the County Council. She is also good at building coalitions and relationships, which the BOE desperately needs internally and externally.

Shebra is nice and a kind person, but she's never struck me as all that interested in the nitty gritty of what the school system does. Board members should be the kind of people who may not be subject matter experts, but ask questions and are willing to push back when the answers don't make sense.

That's what I like about Rebecca and Lynn Harris - they ask questions and don't worry about looking like they don't understand. I think a lot of the time they're trying to get answers on the record so other people can see them.

These are great qualities. I just wish they'd push the central office and super to put more effort into education instead of all these peripheral issues.

That's foolish. I have the same impression of Laura Stewart (and actually of Shebra Evans too), and while I don't know about the top PP, I am 100% certain that I am not now, and have never been, Laura Stewart.

Where did you get the idea that Stewart was ever on the BOE?
