Does this Taylor Swift fling with the NFL football brute seem super fake?

Sure, but dating Kelce is not going to bring Trump supporters into the fandom. He’s disliked by people on the right.

And she's still encouraging people to register to vote and being politically active on instagram. She is not catering to MAGAs that is just kind of a ridiculous assertion. She very intentionally made a decision to say she didn't care in the last election cycle. She had been famously apolitical until that moment.

She explains all of this in her documentary, Miss Americana. She will no longer keep her mouth shut, but because she speaks out... is the reason why she needs bullet proof vehicles. Nutso MAGA idiots threaten her life.

Like convertibles? JFK already proved they aren’t bullet proof….. I’m missing something here.

And that is why we know this is all planned. That girl is not driving around in a convertible without the situation being secure. She said she has to travel with a blood clotter kit in case she is attacked. Random weird men break into her houses and sometimes try sleeping in her bed. Her security seems on top of things and she doesn't pay them to mess up. They are NOT going to let her go around in a convertible without a plan.

I'd love to see photos of her in the convertible where we see more than just the car and see all the protection and/or street shut down for the debacle.

This girl has bulletproof cars.

They drove a few blocks to his penthouse. Changed and went via party bus to a restaurant he rented out.

I agree with you, but still don't quite get what she gets out of this relationship (I am firmly in the "this is fake and orchestrated by PR camp) because while she of course wants more fans and more money, I'm not sure dating Kelce gets them for her? She's just way higher profile than he is. And I already know enough middle-America, football-loving guys who have bought Taylor Swift albums and tickets because their wives/girlfriends/daughters are obsessed with her. I don't think this moves the needle really.

My super-conspiracy theory is that there is some horse trading going on with publicists and other entities, where Taylor agrees to this fake relationship with Kelce to help boost his star, and then Taylor gets something tangible she wants, like a major licensing deal or something. Like maybe Kelce himself can't offer her much, but the people who are invested in his success might have something to offer her.

My bet: Super Bowl halftime brought to you by TS. An abbreviated Eras show. But not in 2024, but rather 2025.

OMG this is totally it. And she's going to tease out some sort of partnership with the NFL for the next 1.5 years for a stupid amount of money.

Why would she do that?

She's already turned down the Super Bowl half-time show on two occasions.

And this year’s SB halftime show was already announced- it’s Usher.

After she turned it down and *NSYNC didn’t want to headline. He was a backup to the backup.

This seems genuine to me although Travis K seems to not mind courting the media at all. Taylor, for her part, just came out of a 6 year old relationship where her ex did not want to be associated with her in public, so she is loving someone who likes and enjoys doting on her in public.

They're both successful and pretty equally famous in their own spheres, they both come from normal wholesome families and are both competitive and achievement oriented.

I can see this having a good run, if not ending in a marriage. They're both 33!

It's totally normal for famous people to develop an interest in each other and then date. There are tons of celeb couples. No one is like "this must be fake because both of these people are rich and successful and that rarely leads to romance!" Duh.

But most famous people do not perform their first date in quite this way, nor do most people get involved with a super busy fellow famous person right at the beginning of the most intensive part of their year. Like even the Kardashians are more low-key than this when they start dating someone new. Like we only found out Kylie Jenner and T. Chalamet were dating when paparazzi photographed them at Chalamet's house. They were dating for actual months before they ever went "public" with it. Kylie Jenner! Meanwhile Kelce and Swift are mouthing sweet nothings to each other on a Jumbotron at an NFL game. It doesn't feel, uh, organic.

This is normal for Taylor. She seems to enjoy public displays of support. Matty Healy was at every one of her shows during their brief relationship.

She has a short hiatus from her tour right now, otherwise this wouldn’t be happening. She’ll be based on London for most of next year so this will probably fizzle out.

Yes, it is normal for Taylor Swift to have fake and extremely public romantic relationships for publicity/career reasons. See: Tom Hiddleston.

I don't think all her relationships are fake -- Alwyn was obviously real and, sadly John Mayer. I do think Joe Jonas was set up by PR people but became a real thing and that both her affection for and annoyance of him are genuine. Hiddleston was 100% fake. Matt Healy I think was real but still contrived -- I think she was genuinely rebounding with him but also that she set out to have a somewhat public "rebound guy" and he fit a certain stereotype.

I also haven't totally written off the possibility that she is closeted or potentially just asexual and it's all fake. Not because I buy into the elaborate conspiracy theories posted online about this linking her to certain women or whatever. Just because, honestly, I don't get a very heterosexual vibe from her and I have never seen her with a man at all and thought "oh chemistry." It always feels like she's dating her brother. Kelce is no different.

Re-bolster her appeal with flyover country? Sporty narrative. Kansas City is America's
team and their quarterback is arguably the most famous athlete in America. Over 20 million Americans were watching the game she was at.

the woman sold out an entire north american stadium tour in minutes. her appeal is firmly in place in every part of the country. can she really not date whomever she chooses without people making it a thing?

NFL "boyfriend" during the season on a flyover state team probably polled well in a focus group (after the ick fling with the British weirdo). Everything she does is poll tested.

Does she really need to? Apparently the demand for her concert tickets was 900x the number of tickets they actually had to offer, crashing Ticketmaster's site. What's gonna happen... demand will drop to 500x?

Exactly! Some sexist assumes this PR stunt helps her more than him. It does not. She is already Grade A famous. He is some dumb jock looking for fame when his football days are done.

More women watching NFL. More moms allowing their boys to play football. Kelce being set up to become a The Rock actor after playing days. You think the NFL and FOX tweeting all of this live is organic? Bless your heart.

No one cares about some stupid football player who was on probation at U of Cincinnati for drugs until his brother convinced UC to lift the probation. Your trite and southern " bless your heart" shows you are one of the stupid people fawning over stupid football players.

No one cares about Travis Kelce?

No. Maybe people in KC who lead dreadful lives with nothing else to do in flyover + who elect stupid politicians like Josh Hawley.

Saying that people living in KC have dreadful lives is a lazy insult. Especially when you live in a place rampant with robberies, car jacking, murders and food deserts, enjoy your good old DC and leave people of KC alone. I am sure they have more joy and fulfillment in their communities and neighborhoods.

+1 Yeah, really. Places like Kansas City are seeming way more appealing than say DC at this point in American history. Better quality of life and everything.

Merchandise sales are likely related to Halloween. Swifties created TS outfits for the tour and are planning to repurpose them. Give your boyfriend a Kelce jersey and your couple costume is finished.

This fake crap has been telegraphed for months with various “viral” clips of macho NFL players at her concerts. It’s cool and okay for men to listen to her catalog! She’s targeting the football demo. Tens of millions of men—over 30 million Americans have a fantasy football team. This cohort swings general elections, which I’m assuming is the real motive here.

Yep! This is why you have so many football teams talking about their fave TS songs. Do we really think that was not planned?!

The teams were asked about favorite songs because Swift’s tour was in town. I doubt she’s been working with the NFL. She sold out a stadium tour without their help.

Either way, this appears to be a calculated move to keep attention and get money. Get attached to a dude with millions of fans, appear at an event being watched by millions between your own shows, etc.

I still think there's a connection. TS played stadiums. Who uses the stadiums the most? Football teams. Lots of cross promo opportunities. If she isn't being paid directly, she's still able to earn money from her appearance at the game by getting NFL daddies to buy tix to her movie for their kids.

And she previously said her relationships were not up for discussion and kept them mostly under wraps. But now she changed her mind?

She is only seen when she wants to be seen. She has security that can make sure of that. Like, we never see her in Utah, do we? But her plane flies there.

She's in control of her story and she's brilliant or has brilliant people working for her.

Again, it's the opposite. The relationship benefits him, not her.

He is trying to break into entertainment from his football career. He has a podcast with his brother, had a short-lived reality program, and hosted SNL last year after winning the SuperBowl. He is looking towards the end of his football career and trying to lift his profile for a career in acting, realty TV, maybe broadcasting or similar. But for that he needs a fan base beyond Chiefs fans and fantasy football people. He's not a QB and that can make leap from football to entertainment more difficult.

I don't really get what's in it for her. I don't think she needs the exposure.

Kelce is a popular NFL player. I don’t think he needs her to successfully transition to the entertainment industry. I actually think the label of “Taylor Swift’s boyfriend” can hurt more than help.

Everything after "Kelce is a popular NFL player" is just dead wrong. I'm going to assume you don't work in PR.

How is Joe Alwyn’s career these days? By your logic, he should be a megastar.

Joe Alwyn went out of his way to be as unassociated with her as possible for the duration of their relationship. He was not comfortable with her level of fame so they kept their relationship locked down. Kelce is giving interviews about making her friendship bracelets. The opportunity of press and fame is only as effective as the person taking advantage of it.

+1. I also happen to think that the relationship with Alwyn was real -- it went on for a long time, and they were low key about it.

This Kelce thing looks like the Tom Hiddleston relationship -- F.A.K.E. Although at least this time he's not like a decade older than her.

I don't think Alwyn went out of his way to be unassociated. They were photographed together. She said she had decided her relationship was not up for discussion. Maybe she appeared to change her mind with Matty because she wanted that fan base.

But Joe and Taylor also had time out of the public eye. A lot of their relationship took place before she was a mega-mega star and then during the pandemic when she was home a lot. At the time, he'd received accolades for his work in a movie, and his star seemed to be rising or about to rise.

They lived in or near where he grew up. They ate at pizza restaurants with her in disguise and security guards at another table. According to her songs, she even roamed Camden Market (not sure if that really happened), and they were photographed hiking in Hampstead Heath. Maybe she got be to normal a little bit. She supposedly spent quite a bit of time with his family before they moved into the mansion she rented in Primrose Hill.

As the pandemic ended, she had created a bunch of new albums, won a bunch of music awards, and there was pent up demand for concerts in general.

She is a master of launching her albums at the right time, her videos at the right time and so on so that she maximizes the number of awards she can win. It would not surprise me if she has a person on staff who figures out the best time to launch things.

The girl is aiming for EGOT status and wants to break Beyonce's record as winning the most grammy awards.

I also think these "public" romances are fake (and her behavior with Matty Healy kind of gross) and that the Joe Alwyn romance was real. Six years is a long time to fake something.

I mean that's true of lots of great cities. Rich professional athletes don't stay in Chicago, Philly, Minneapolis, Seattle, even SF, either. Heck, they don't stay in DC. If you are a wealthy pro athlete, an actor, high level politician, etc., you go to NY or LA. Maybe Miami (for tax reasons but also the nightlife) If you're really into Texas, you might got to Houston. But... that's it in the US. A town like KC doesn't have enough ways for you to spend true f**k you money.

But the idea that everyone in KC leads a "dreadful life" just because super rich and famous people don't want to live there is nuts. In many ways, being somewhere that gets bypassed by the super rich and famous leads to a higher quality of life for your average MC or UMC person, because it allows the city to focus its energy on meeting the needs of the average citizen, and not just the rich people.

I'd rather live in KC than NYC, even though I love NYC, because I have a normal person salary and that buys me a really, really nice life in KC and a lot of stress and financial insecurity in NYC.
