If you are worried about grades and stuff you have the wrong priorities. Also PVI typically not on the list of consideration as it is in WV. |
Prep
Gonzaga SJC Paul VI Heights Prep is easily top of the list, Gonzaga ahead of SJC but not in a completely different league like Prep is (literally). PVI is not a prep school drawing from all around the DMV like the first 3, it's still your local Catholic school alternative to publics. Heights has a totally different focus that makes it hard to even put in this list. They take academics seriously, sure, but they are religion first and academics second. The first 3 are competing with each for the best applicants, so they'll have they best college placement records, but PVI has all the APs and curriculum you could want and their students can get into good schools too. Again, Heights is the outlier. Curriculum is fine, etc. but you don't go to Heights for the academics. |
great post... appreciate your honest feedback. We live in McLean |

PP mentioned the PVI lax job.
My bet is that the PVI admins mess up the process and none of those 3 get the job. That’s been the historical trend at least. |
Prep SJC Gonzaga PVI Heights Have had sons attend both SJC and GZ, and will say that SJC has passed GZ in full-picture academics. By that I mean: quality of education, preparation for standardized tests, college counseling and college placement. The margin is not wide, but SJC has the edge now. SJC admission rates have changed the game. They are getting a higher caliber student than they used to, and they are preparing them pretty well. Prep is still on another level. It’s possible SJC could someday catch them. But the current gap is real, and definitely linked to socioeconomic profile of Prep students. |
I have to disagree. I have kids at both SJC (1 in scholars program) and Gonzaga. I would put Gonzaga over SJC except maybe the scholars program. SJC may have more class opportunities, but overall education I would put Gonzaga ahead of SJC. |
College placement? Prove it. Back it up with statistics not opinion. |
It seems like we keep going back to which school is better than the other arguments. Since this is a lacrosse forum let’s stick to what is important. If your kid can play and he has a solid GPA, 3.5 or better, he will have a ton of choices at the next level. All of our local schools are good enough. |
Ok, honey. I’m also done with the spreadsheets and regression analysis. |
It is who wins off the lacrosse field that matters. This year it will be GZ 2024 WCAC champs. |
Better get you a BIG box of tissues now. GZ needs to worry about beating PVI and GC first. Big brother on military road gonna sweep WCAC in 2024. Would say looking forward to the championship matchup but GZ might not be there. Nothing new. ![]() |
Off the field? 😜 |
Guys on here always revert to talking academics when they can’t win on the field. |
Just checked Tourney and it looks like the DC teams are doing well at All American. |
