No Blake and SJP are how you do the Met Gala. They are old pros at it.

Blake never disappoints.

She doesn't. Remember her in 2018?

Who cares about Blake lively? She stands there with her mouth open like she;s got enlarged adenoids but she thinks she's Venus emerging from an Oyster shell. Is she even in the movies or TV anymore?

+1 I've never been wowed by her as an actress, but she has an amazing fashion sense and almost never misses at these types of events, the Oscars, etc. I also do think she might be charming IRL, based on her and RR's social media interaction.

Jesus the slicked back, greasy hair look NEVER works. Looking at you Khloe.

I agree with the pp's about her hair color, skin tone, and makeup for this year's event. It all looks awful. I've never seen her made-up face look so unattractive. I also think slicking her hair back into a bun was a bad idea. It emphasizes her face (which does not look good). She should have done a down style.

She seems to only wear her hair slicked back or with that “wet” look these days. Looks horrible. I loved her hair in her Kris Humphries era. I think a blonde version of that would’ve been great with this dress.

The hair is clearly a nod to Marilyn. I mean you are trash talking one of the most famous dresses of all time calling it a blah dress. It isn't always about looking great (although I think she does honestly and think the only people who don't think that just hate her on principal) but about getting your references down. Going platinum blonde is getting your reference down.

No. PP said that the MM dress looks blah on Kim, and it does.
You must be joking about going platinum blonde, because that "reference" is really weak and doesn't translate.

Overall, it's a pretentious attempt with an underwhelming result and a huge stretch in following the theme.

The reference of dying your hair platinum blonde while referencing marilyn monroe is a weak reference?????? What? The woman is a FAMOUS platinum blonde? I feel like you all are stretching. Dying ones hair platinum blonde while referencing MM is more 'too on the nose' than it is 'really weak and doesn't translate' if it is anything.

NP. It doesn’t look platinum, it just looks washed out. It didn’t translate. It’s okay. Are you her stylist or something?

I'm not her stylist or even a fan. I just think you are making no sense.

We're telling you that she didn't look that good. Her idea was good, her execution was lacking. It led to a normally very striking woman looking strangely blah. What don't you understand about that?

Sure, yes, nods to MM - whatever! The point is to get there and look striking. She didn't.

That is not what you said. You said this:

You must be joking about going platinum blonde, because that "reference" is really weak and doesn't translate.

It doesn’t look platinum

I'm not arguing with you about whether she looked great. I think that is totally a matter of subjective opinion. I just think it seems like you are determined to find universal and nonsensical fault. Say it is underwhelming, fine, but she wore the actual dress MM wore, which is an american historical artifact, and regardless of your thoughts of the dye job, she dyed her hair a clear homage to MM. You can say it didn't look good! Fine! But it wasn't unclear or weak, and I'm not sure how wearing the ACTUAL DRESS could 'not translate'. I'm just saying regardless of how well you think the execution is, she was clearly executing the theme, and you are like, weirdly offended I think you are making no sense. But you are making no sense calling a platinum dye job a 'weak' reference to MM.

You're responding to someone else - but if I had to guess what they meant, her "platinum" didn't look platinum. It looked orange. She might have been trying to reference Marilyn with her "blonde" hair but it was a far way off. She captured none of the sexiness or playfulness or ease of Marilyn's look - that was her whole thing; that sort of breathless, effortless sexiness. Kim looked studied and boring - she always looks like she's trying hard but she rarely looks boring. Last night she did!

This is the kind of comment that makes me think you guys are yanking my chain or something. Her hair did not look orange? What? I'm honestly not some super fan it just seems like you guys are like, saying crazy kind of silly things in criticism. The whole 80s explanation slicked back vs MM era hair made sense. But I mean, she clearly was going for platinum blonde.

Different lighting - it read (to me) as more orange-y in other pics. Here it does look dyed blond, yes. She looks better overall here. Perhaps it's posture. I still think it was a bad look for her.

She looks beautiful, but the hair color does not suit her. And the hair style does not go with the dress. Kudos to her for managing the weight loss! I had no idea Marilyn was so much smaller than Kim.

Speaking of hair style, what does everyone think of Kris Jenner's flip? It's a departure from her signature short style.
I liked it. I also liked her dress. I think she looked better than her daughters.

I think there’s something a little strange about Kris invoking Jackie O on a night where her daughter invoked MM!

Kim Kardashian was unable to zip up the iconic Marilyn Monroe dress that she wore to Monday's Met Gala, and was forced to leave it open, covering up her backside with a white fur shawl.
DM

Disgusting.
Anna Wintour hit rock bottom along with this trash.

Just because the color didn't look good on her doesen't mean it's a bad dye job. She's been with her stylist for many years, I'm sure he knows what he's doing. He actually posted on his stories how he achieved her look. He did Khloe's hair for the Met too.

Marilyn was 5’6”. Kim is 5’2”. Kim had to be wearing some sky high heels since she wasn’t allowed to alter Marilyn’s dress.

Kim is 41. Marilyn was 35 in that dress.

Ok. But what does that have to do with Kim's hair falling out?

Kim K. wore Marilyn’s sheer dress that she wore to Madison Square Garden in ‘62 to sing the Prez a Happy Birthday.

And not only did Kim look magnificent her boyfriend Pete Davidson looked equally great.

They are a great power couple and compliment each other so well. 💫✨

Are you 12? Power couple?

No, she’s 45 and in love with Pete Davidson.

Whaat? She's 41 and has kids.

No I meant the poster who called Kim and Pete a power couple. She has a very distinctive posting style, posts often about Pete, and has posted personal details about herself on this site.

I hate to say it, but Elon Musk's mother looked very elegant.

His mother is stunning and has wonderful fashion sense. I dislike him, but I can't help but love Maye. Apple did seem to fall kind of far from the tree there.

Blake Lively’s dress is amazing but she doesn’t know how to wear it. I just finished watching The Gilded Age, and Carrie Coon looked incredible in all of her beautiful gowns. I don’t know if Blake lacks elegance/maturity/presence or the acting skill to fake these things, but she looks all wrong in it. What a waste of a stunning gown.

Same! I thought she was fabulous, playful, and quirky.

If you look at the video carefully, she was wearing some kind of garment nude garment that extended above her waist. And they didn't paint over tattoos. I wish they had covered the tats for a more seamless look. Still loved it, though.

I'm on the fence regarding the MM dress on Kim K. Surprisingly, I don't hate it. I thought the fit was good, and I didn't hate her for wearing it. Her hair, make-up, and styling were off. The thing with the iconic MM dress is that it was created for that single moment in time on stage, and you cannot resurrect it. Kim is too tan for the dress. The dress was designed to give the illusion that MM was nude. You could see through the dress on stage and see the shimmery outline of her body. You could see between her thighs. The impact on the red carpet was lackluster. I didn't think it was terrible, though, which surprises me, because I'm in no way a Kim fan.
