It was a terrible plan from the start. Now APS is proposing Virtual Virginia for kids who can't go in person, plus extra support from APS for any gaps. This is what should have been done from the very beginning. |
At least he can admit it isn’t working, and pull it. I think that’s hard for many leaders to do. |
+1 S happens. It takes balls to deal with and also to admit when it's not working. |
Yeah, I am on fan of his but even I think he is doing the right thing here. |
He's only pulling back, not pulling. They fully intend to resume after a year of better planning of the program. Also, he was publicly committed to continuing the program as recently as a few weeks ago. The sudden shift is disconcerting. Even though it's the right decision. |
Do you seriously believe that it's just a "pause"?!? This is exactly what Congress does all the time when they want to table something permanently. Let's study an issue, then never do anything about it. |
Duran has handed full operation of APS to his main lackey, John Mayo. Duran thinks he is an emperor. So far, two high level staff member, Marcus Gregory and Arron Gregory (were they related?) were fired for performance/ inappropriate conduct. Poor hiring decisions. Waiting for Duran’s Kingdom to crash. It’s just a matter of time. What a clown, disgraceful outfit for Arlington. |
I hope it is a final demise. But for now, I accept that it's a "pause" - even as a first step to eventually admitting it's over. If Kim Graves is still working on it, I find that enough credibility for now. Even better if her task is to demonstrate the program should be dropped permanently. |
10M to VLP......and my special education child below grade level learner cant even get a reading teacher pull out resource. Heck we had those in the 80's when we were taught phonics in a small town South Carolina school. What good is a reading coach when the techer is overwhelmed by so many behind learners. SMH.......APS is down hill without a helmet. |
Is the 10 million inclusive of regular per pupil spending? If so it’s not that much higher than in person spending per child |
If it's on top of the all the base costs, it's an additional 10 million...which would mean they are spending twice as much to educate kids from home....and additional $25k per student that could have gone to supplementing Virtual Virginia rather than APS rolling their own. |
I didn't realize $10M for VLP was in addition to the $25k/student.. how did that ever get approved?? |
I’m not sure how that could be true, unless they are including teacher salary and benefits and even then it’s a stretch. |
The school board is unwilling to challenge Duran on anything. They don’t ever want to look like they are undermining him. My discussions with board members last year made that perfectly and publicly clear. They are more sensitive to that than to any damage he causes, of which there is plenty. |
So pathetic. Why are they afraid to undermine him?? |
