It looks like SWW will expand to a PK-12 school. How will that work? Is that a positive move?
Wow, that is interesting. I'm curious to hear more.
Link? Where did you get this info from?

Hit "review the plan." It's on page 4. There is another thread on this, too. |
I think it means they are sharing a building only--Francis Stevens will be PS-8 and SWW will be 9-12. |
Do Francis Stevens students who graduate 8th grade automatically go to SWW for high school, or are their applications given the same weight as the rest of the city? Somebody please talk me through this change real slow like.
Francis Stevens will merge with the selective School Without Walls to serve students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Students who attend Francis Stevens through middle school will still need to apply to continue at School Without Walls for high school, Henderson said.
I think the more important part of this is that it will allow for more seats at SWW for high school - if I'm reading the plan correctly.

"Merging FS with SWW enables SWW to expand its grades and manage a neighborhood/boundary education campus at the FS building. Current FS students would automatically be enrolled in the school for next year". Perhaps the selective element of SWW will become like an academy at the merged PK-12 school ... but hard to tell.

So where will the kids go if they don't get into SWW? What's the inboundary High School for that neighborhood? SWW has space to accomodate these kids?
FS feeds to Cardozo but in boundary students (24%) are zoned for Wilson.
The line "Current FS students would automatically be enrolled in the school for next year" suggests that the new merged school would have a non selective HS element, but not clear.
There is nothing in there that says SWW will be anything other than part of a pk-12 school. Merged doesn't mean co-located.
Sounds like a disaster. Walls opposed the proposed move and expansion on the basis that it would distract them from what they do well. Now they get to manage a neighborhood ES and MS on top of it all.
SWW is still application and selection. The line about current F-S students only means they don't have to apply to be in PS-8, but after 8th all bets are off and neighborhood feeders come into play if not selected for walls. Seems like they are hoping the SWW name will attract superficial OOB or neighborhood sect, but true PS-12 connection is not there.
