What's the longest you've gone without having a period?

I'm in my mid 20s. Definitely not pregnant. Just had a well-woman exam and they didn't find anything wrong. I've taken BC for about 6 years and switched to my current pills about a year ago. It's been months since I've had a period. At first, it was just spotting but the past few cycles there has been nothing. The doctor said sometimes this happens but I am suspicious.

4 months. But I'm 53.

You will definitely skip periods if your B.C. pill packs contain all active pills and no sugar pill week included. Periods are induced when on B.C. pills by taking a week of inactive pills, thus allowing for skipping your period indefinitely if you wanted to.

Are you underweight? That could be the issue. I went years without a period while on bcp.

Other than during pregnancy, it's never been more than a couple of months.

If you stop BC, it will resume if there's not another issue.

I know that and also that it's withdrawal bleeding etc. I have 28 day packs with 7 sugar pills. I go 21 days on, 4 days off. Approved by the gyno.

3 yrs in college due to sports and being underweight. I worried it was a bigger issue but I am now 31 and expecting my 3rd (and last) child.

It's not a real period and not everyone gets one when they are on BCPs. So you can't compare it to a period disappearing.

Hormones are so messed up, esp synthetic ones. I switched to the BCP where you only get your period every 3 months but instead i spotted every week or so. Took the pill at the same time daily.

Ultimately went off them altogether after my specialist explained certain people were more susceptible to these kinds of issues.

Before all this, during my high school sport season i would have a little spotting but that was it for a period. But never totally without. I was thin but not underweight and not exactly an athlete either.

Something's up. 2nd opinion might be in order. Good luck

In high school and college my period would disappear for 6-7 months at a time! I have PCOS though.

I missed 4 months in college (no pregnancy). It seemed to have been a one-time thing, no issues as an adult. Weird, but supports OP's doctor's assertion that this happens.

I also have pcos.... Longest was probably 5 months after going off of the pill

Well I haven't had a period in 2.5 years at this point. My youngest is 20 months and still breastfeeding although not as much, and my last period was the one right before I got pregnant with her. Before I got off birth control to get pregnant, I didn't have a period for over a year. I was using a Mirena. Before that I used the Nuvaring and often didn't have periods in my off week.

in my early 20s, rarely got it (was underweight/over exercising).

after I put on 10#, it came back. but when I was on a particular low estrogen dose pill, I rarely got it, or if I did, it was a day.

I'm now 42, not at all underweight and have heavy periods every month.

Not on BCP then you NEED to have your menses 4 times a year.
On BCP, can have irregular bleeding for the first 6 months.
