vent! I splurged on $2 avocados at whole foods and they're crap!

thought they were pricey but wanted to mash and let baby try for the first time. bought last thurs, quite soft today. opened up and it was not a nice green but yellow! i was like, well color isn't everything... then mashed up and noticed there were brown stringy fibers and it tasted bland. ..

thought a small $2 avocado from whole foods would be delicious... at least yummier than from the regular grocery store....man what a rip off!

You may have waited too long to use it. Was it soft on Thursday? If so, I would have used it right away. Maybe you can return them?

I've discovered the hard way that avocados are actually ripe before they are really soft. They should be firm but not hard.

op here, i'm a frequent avocado shopper so i thought i knew how to pick them.

they feel soft but they don't taste ripe at all and why are they so stringy??? (its not the Haas brand)

It's because they're not Haas. Those are so much better. And also because you waited too long. Just calm down. It's not worth getting up in arms about the little stuff.

Did you get one of those shitty fake Florida avocados?? They call them Slimcados I think. I've heard people accidentally get those and then WTF over them when they cut into them because they are NOT like regular avocados.

The one time I tried to go to Giant for avocados, the avocados were so old and overripe they had literally split open right there on the table and were leaking avocado goo everywhere. It was vile.
