A spinoff to the other thread.
What do you like about living in, working in Maryland? |
|
I don't live there, but I use your IKEA! Its soooo much easier to get to than the VA IKEA.
I really also like the area around River Road (is that Bethesda?). We used to go that way to the Cheescake factory in Chevy Chase. I think those neighborhoods are so charming with all of the unique homes and big trees. If I lived in MD, that is where I would live, or else in Fredrick if we telecommuted. Its beautiful up there. |
| Don't live there but I love the Crescent Trail and Bethesda Bagels. |

MARYLAND IF FOR LOVERS!
Virginia is for haters. Specifically, Maryland is much more LBGT friendly both culturally and legally than our neighbors on the other side of the District. MARYLAND IS INTERSTING Baltimore, in all its freaky goodness, gave us H. L. Mencken, and John Waters. Edgar Allen Poe, though born in Boston and residing for a time in Virginia, made Baltimore his home 'til the end. CRABS! MMMMmmmm....crabcakes. MARYLAND HAS BETTER ROLLER DERBY! The Charm City All Stars are ranked 11th out of 50 WFTDA leagues. Charm City has beaten both Dominion (VA) and DC. MARYLAND IS PROGRESSIVE NARAL gives Maryland an "A" grade on reproductive rights. Virginia got an "F." Montgomery County has a law on the books banning discrimination against transgendered people. Maryland passed the nation's first statewide living wage law. I think our flag looks cool. |
VA hater here, I guess I'll take back my nice comment about MD. I don't think I'd like to live there if you were my neighbor. I'll stick to my hateful VA neighbors. |
| MARC trains to BWI! |
| Chinese restaurants are so much better in Maryland. The crap that passes for dim sum in DC is a joke! |
I speak to the political clime. There are some lovely people in Virginia. There is also a critical mass of people in VA who wanted to pass judgement on my ability to parent based on my sexual orientation. Please try not to be so sensitive. |

The array of directors and writers who bring us Baltimore in all its exotic and mundane forms: Simon and Burns; John Waters, Barry Levinson
I'm sure the B-more politicians are not happy about it but I adored Homicide: Life on the Streets and The Wire. Also loved Hairspray (Waters) and Diner (Levinson). Then again I'm a former Clevelander who likes Baltimore because it reminds me of Cleveland. (I know -- crazy, isn't it?) |

"Chinese restaurants are so much better in Maryland. The crap that passes for dim sum in DC is a joke! "
Where? We've been going back into DC for dim sum, would love to find good Chinese places in MD! |
| As a commuter into DC, I like that I don't have to go over a bridge. If one of the main roads is blocked (such CT Ave., 16th St., Beach Drive), you can always find alternate routes through neighborhoods. DC residents may not like that so much but sorry! |
I'm not the PP, but we love dim sum at the various Chinese restaurants in Wheaton. |
| i second the pp. wheaton is the place to be for dim sum. hollywood east, good fortune, paul kee? i think those are the names. there's also a popular place in downtown silver spring... oriental east? or something like that. |

Western Maryland / Deep Creek Lake / Cumberland
MoCo parks, esp. that South Germantown waterpark thingy Strathmore 355 - Rockville Pike. I'm serious, I live in NW DC and I can hit all my big box errands in one fell swoop by doin' the Pike. |
